Waking up, Akane enjoyed the feel of her bed under her, and found herself not wanting to get up. She might not have been one who liked to sleep in as much as her sister Nabiki did, but she did like to stay in bed for a little longer than she had to on occasion. And her bed was nice and warm on this morning, so it felt even better than usual.
Then Ranma and Akane realized that they were in bed with another person, and that person was of the opposite sex. As there was currently a male hand laying loosely on a female hip, there was only one possible thing to do.
"AAAAAIIIEEEE!" the two of them screeched as they launched themselves backwards. Ranma slammed into the wall as Akane fell straight off the bed, with the both of them wondering how they came to be in this position.
And then memories came sinking back into them.
"Akane, are ya okay?" Ranma asked, leaning in her direction to get a look at her state.
He didn't really have to do that, as she was already clawing her way back onto the mattress. "Me? I'm just fine."
"Then why did you do that?"
"Well, I am not used to sleeping with anyone else in my bed, never mind a guy. What about you?"
"Same here...." he admitted.
"It simple then. We'll get used to it. I mean, we're married."
"I guess...."
"What do you mean by that?!"
"It's just that I'm not sure how quick it'll go for me...."
For a moment, Akane was confused as to what he meant, and then she realized that he was uncertain about the ease with which he could adapt to this change in things. "I understand."
"I'm glad, since it'll make this easier for...."
Right then, what looked like a large face with really wide eyes, a massive mouth, and an air of menace came up over Akane's shoulder. "Ran... ma...."
"GAH!" Ranma blurted, and in an instinctual act, he shot out a punch straight into the misshappen nose of the 'creature'.
Soun Tendo went flying out the window from the hit, and landed in the koi pond.
"Oops."
"Oh, Dad," Akane sighed, covering her face with one hand. "Hopefully we can salvage something out of this morning...."
"Like what?"
"Well, we're alone."
"So...."
"I want to greet you good morning," she murmured.
"What? Like in those stories?"
"If that's what you can think of...."
"I...." her husband swallowed, and leaned towards her, so that his mouth headed for hers in a nervous attempt at a kiss.
Akane blushed slightly as she lifted her chin slightly to better receive the press of his lips onto hers.
"Ah, so you did manage to do something after the interruption," a voice put in.
Both teens turned to face the individual who had spoken.
"What?" went Genma.
Glancing at her husband, Akane saw that the moment had passed, and that Ranma was now not in the proper mood for romance. Her annoyance with the loss of the chance to enjoy the love between them flared up, and she ground her teeth together. But, she did try to keep her cool.
"Normally, I would have already pulled the boy out of bed to do some morning training, but I was going to let you two... get 'reacquainted'. Too bad my old friend had to interrupt. Still, you were managing quite well."
"Thanks, but you don't have to tell us that," his daughter in law growled.
"I know, but I figured that I would just say so. Still, why don't you keep on going?"
"Because we keep on getting interrupted!" she snapped, and twisted around to slam a fist into his jaw.
Genma was launched backwards, smacking into the wall, and falling to the floor in an unconscious heap.
"Pheh."
All her father in law could do was groan and lay there.
"Serves you right," she muttered... and then turned to face her husband, concerned about his reaction to what she'd just done.
Rather than looking mad, Ranma had his arms crossed over his chest, and was nodding sagely.
"Ranma?"
The pigtailed boy raised a brow at her. "That wasn't too bad, but the proper way to hit him is so that he folds over the strike. And hearing him make noise is always a plus."
"You don't mind that I hit him?"
"Why should I? I wanna hit him all the time, so why shouldn't ya?"
"I see...."
"Remember, sparrin' with him's good, 'cause ya get ta hit him all that ya want," the younger Saotome male informed her. "And he usually deserves it."
"I won't doubt that. But now...."
"What?"
"We've got to get ready for the day, and breakfast will be coming soon."
"Good! I'm starvin'...."
"Some things never change," she muttered affectionately.
The elderly woman returned to cleaning her walkway, and merely shook her head at the noise coming from the direction of the Tendo home. It did seem that such sounds did come from there a lot, and one couldn't ignore that sort of thing. But she'd always been of one opinion on the subject matter.
Such life coming from those young people was really a good thing to see, and, in this case, hear.
"School?" Ranma asked, looking over at the girl across the table from him.
Nabiki nodded, and leaned back as the two of them waited for the food to arrive. "Yeah, you'll be going to the one that Akane and I go to."
"This isn't a punishment, is it?"
"How could you think that?"
"I did, sorta... deck your father...."
"Did you mean to do it?" she asked.
"No! Of course not!"
"Oh well...."
He blinked at her. "Huh?"
"Nothing. But remember, we don't want you to go as a punishment. This is an opportunity to better yourself."
"You coulda fooled me."
"Listen, you might not like it, but it really is necessary. If you'll live here, then you might as well go," his sister in law told him. "Besides, it'll mean that you'll be able to spend more time around my little sister."
"There is that...."
"See? Even our fathers can come up with a good idea... once in a while," she commented, trailing off uncertainly at the end.
"If it's their idea, why not have them tell me themselves?"
"They're unconscious from being punched, if you recall."
"Oh, yeah...."
"So, what do you say... 'little brother'?"
"We even have the supplies that your father got for you ready," an entering Kasumi told him, pulling out a schoolbag.
Facing one Tendo sister was tough enough, but dealing with both of his sisters in law was not a situation that he could 'win'. And considering the fact that his wife would likely want him to attend classes, there was only one thing that he could say. "I guess so...."
"Wonderful! I'm glad that I'll be able to give you a wonderful lunch too!"
"Now, that's somethin' that I could look forward too."
"Boys," Nabiki sighed with mock-drama. "Ever so simple."
"Ha ha. Very funny..."
"I thought so."
Her brother in law gave her a sour look, which made her giggle, while:
