“Your actions went too far Kefka! What if you had killed the World Seed!? Where would we be then? Need I remind you that without her all of our plans will be for naught?” accused one of the figures seated at the table.
“WUH HUH HUH HUH HUH! Don’t be so dramatic, her friends saved her didn’t they? Are you honestly going to complain about the fact that I went above and beyond what was asked of me?” cackled the one addressed as Kefka. The most unusual one from among even this ecliptic group, Kefka was dressed in a fantastically clashing array of colors and fabrics, silks to cotton of every color of the rainbow adorned his frame in what could only be called a mockery of a nobleman’s dress. His white face painted in red eye liner with smaller red diamonds adorning his cheeks only added to his ‘clown’ motif. In fact the only thing more twisted and warped than his current ensemble would have been his sanity. The first test subject to an experimental ‘magical enhancement’ process Kefka had lost his mind only to gain incredible powers, powers rivaled only by his apparent cowardice in the face of direct conflict.
“We do not know that!” screamed the first speaker. “We have found a few of her friends but we have yet to find HER!!”
With his eyes glued to the image of Earth being swallowed by a temporal collapse Kefka merely waved the speakers concern away. “Pffft, your senses are not attuned to the powers of magic like mine are, trust me when I tell you that the World Seed is still alive. I would have felt her passing.”
“How can you be so sure you arrogant son of a -!” raged the first voice before being cut off by a third.
“Calm down, though I do not approve of the lengths that Kefka went through to complete his mission, I can agree with him that the World Seed has not been destroyed, though I must admit I am confused as to it’s disappearance, a heart as pure as that one should shine out like a new star. How we have not been able to locate it is troubling.”
A general murmur of agreement rose within the room before dying out once more. Several figures began to shift in their seats before another younger voice spoke up. “Why can’t we just use any of the other World Seeds? Aren’t they just as good, and what of our other project, Project Gerhn? I thought that Ikari was making progress.”
As the latest speaker finally settled down, all eyes turned towards the mentioned individual. Seated by himself, a lone figure leaned over the table; his white gloved hands steeped together hiding the lower half of his face. Looking over his orange tinted glasses Gendo Ikari addressed all those assembled.
“As most of you know, a World Seed is the primary and most necessary ingredient to the creation of a new worldscape. These resources are capable of gathering and channeling vast amounts of energy into physical constructs capable of supporting life according to predetermined rules of existence. In short they are able to create entire planets, and each planet is unique in that each individual world may be governed by completely alien physical and metaphysical laws that can govern every aspect of life upon that world from the formation of magic to the psychological makeup of every individual living upon that world. The World Seeds are in a way the very essence of god upon that world.”
Looking up to ensure that he had everyone’s attention and that they were following him Ikari continued. “And although we have gathered together several World Seeds, the means of activating them and harnessing their potential has so far escaped us. At present time they are no more useful to us than any other ordinary individual. Further study has revealed though that there is a condition that must be met first before these other World Seeds can become active. Though the actual mechanism still remains unknown what we do know is that each other World Seeds have reacted positively whenever World Seed U-09 has grown in power and ability. It is therefore believed that once World Seed U-09 reaches a minimum necessary power output all other World Seeds near it will ‘awaken’. In that moment it will be possible for us to harness them and govern the direction that each new world will take as it forms.”
“Yes,” spoke up another voice from within the darkness, “but what of Project Gerhn? Didn’t the artificial activation of a World Seed lead to success?”
At the mention of Project Gerhn’s activation several members present visibly shuddered. For they had seen the result of Project Gerhn’s ‘success’ and none were eager to repeat it.
Unfazed Gendo Ikari continued with his report, unflinching it was difficult to determine if he even held any opinion upon the outcome of Project Gerhn’s initial testing. “While it was proven possible to artificially force the activation of a World Seed, what resulted was essentially a ‘still born’ world. World Seed U-01 has been placed under surveillance and is being prepared for reactivation once more data comes in. Until that time I suggest that we focus our efforts on the retrieval of World Seed U-09 with an increase of resources to Operation MCP.”
A sense of surprise filtered through the area as a few of those gathered looked towards each other. “Reactivation?” a voice called out, “after what happened the first time is the subject still even capable to function in the capacity of a World Seed? And what about you Ikari, isn’t WS U-01 your own son?”
Staring coolly across those gathered before him Gendo Ikari spoke one last time. “World Seed U-01 is being prepared and WILL perform its function. As for any emotional attachments I can assure you all that I understand all too well that sometimes sacrifices must be made to ensure the commencement of the greater good.”
Ignoring Kefka’s appreciative whistle the rest of the room settled once more into a low mummer in response to Ikari’s last statement. One of the founding members, many had made the mistake to simply assume Gendo Ikari was nothing more than a mere human. Those first few that had underestimated him had soon learned that there was more to this ‘mere human’ than good organization skills and high competency. Those still alive respected Gendo Ikari, respected and feared him, and now there was no longer any question amongst the Committee that he was indeed an equal.
