"Magical Foxy Valkyrie, Asuka-chan! Hey, I get a weapon! Wunderbar!" declared the foxgirl as she slid the sword out of its sheathe and twirled it a couple of times.
"Be careful with that!" Misato warned. "You could hurt someone with that thing."
"Don't worry about it. I seem just know how to use this baby...."
"Lucky for us."
"What's that mean?"
The mechanical woman gave the redhead a flat look. "Think about it. If you didn't, you'd have a really sharp and heavy object that you'd have to learn to use, hopefully without cutting something off yourself, or one of us in the process."
"Oh.... Well, that's good then. Nothing seems to be causing trouble about it then."
"I'm not so sure about that...." Maya murmured.
"How can you say that?"
"Look at Shinji."
All the other females in the room did as she said, and saw a wide eyed young man who looked like he was on the verge of bolting.
"What is it, Shinji?" Ritsuko asked, leaning in to get close enough to let him feel comforted.
He turned his wide eyes to her direction. "I saw...."
"'Saw' what? What do you mean?"
"When Asuka.... When she.... Her clothes.... They.... She was.... For a moment there...."
"Yes?"
"The transformation. It made her clothes.... They went away.
It took the girls to understand what he meant, but when they did, it was with embarrassed expressions, and many of them looked away.
Asuka flushed rather deeply, and fiddled with her fingers for a moment. "You saw?"
"Yeah," Shinji confirmed, and then made a choking sound as he wildly whipped around with a concerned look on his face. "But I didn't mean to! It's not like I'd want to! Ahh! I mean, I didn't intend to peep at you...."
"Idiot."
"Huh?"
"I said that you're an idiot," the magical girl valkyrie sighed, saying the last word almost like it was a term of endearment.
"But why would I be an 'idiot'?"
"Because if you saw something... like that, it would be my fault, since I did it in front of you. But since you seeing that isn't such a big worry for me, there's no reason for me to be mad in the first place."
"There isn't?"
"Not really," the redhead commented idly, giving a small shrug.
"That's odd...."
"This whole situation is 'odd'," Ritsuko reminded him. "Still, this at least allows us to get another clue."
"What would that be?" her old college roommate asked.
"Simple. It tells us that our hypothesis is going to prove to be true, which means that all five of us will be magical girls, of some sort or another."
Maya frowned slightly. "But what about Shinji?"
"I'm not sure about that. For all I know, he could have been put into the 'magical boyfriend' role."
"Then he'll transform too?"
"That is a distinct possibility," the scientist-turned-catgirl answered.
Blinking, Asuka looked at the catgirl. "You mean that I could see him as he just saw me?"
"Perhaps."
Five feminine minds began to imagine what it would be like to see him transform as they did.
He didn't know what they were thinking about, but Shinji felt rather certain that the parted lips, smiles, and rosy cheeks were not the product of working out theories.
"Unfortunately, that might not be the case," Rei murmured.
"Why do you say that?" Maya asked.
"Because a good many times has said 'magical boyfriend' merely changing with a minimum of fuss."
"And you know this...." Misato said slowly. "How?"
"The comics that I have received. They have been most informative in showing me a good many things."
The others stared at her for a moment before Misato spoke again, this time at the heavens. "She reads comics. Why isn't it such a shocking thought?"
"Perhaps it is because she's so different from most girls her age," suggested Maya.
"Just so long as she doesn't turn into a fangirl," Asuka sighed. "I really hope that isn't the case."
