What had started over three million years previously as a forgotten penal colony on the most horrific planet that ancient society could find, eventually developed into something else.
The early Tatajin had tunnelled deep into the ground, because then all they had to worry about were earthquakes and volcanoes - relatively peaceful. Then they went on to develop themselves further and further. Psionic abilities to deal with the gravity and some of the other environmental hazards. Not only physical strength but reflexes had to be much greater than ever to deal with just the gravity. Add in sand-flies and other hazards, and it was a wonder that even with their underground warrens that anyone at all could survive for one generation.
The Tatajin had gone on to tame many of the hazards of their world, then fought wars amongst themselves, and eventually become a race that annoyed the heck out of their immediate interplanetary neighbors.
One of those races that had become an enemy finally ended the Tatajin and their homeworld. Missiles that burrowed into the ground, sought out the core, and then unleashed enough explosive force to break a planet apart. Though admittedly it wasn't much of a planet, and with the gravitic forces from the various moons it was easier than most such planets would be.
(That those who blew up the planet then launched fighter ships with orders to shoot survivors might have been deemed silly with any other targets.)
The Tatajin were still viewed mainly as villains by the galactic community. In truth this was mainly because it was their rowdier and more lawless individuals who were most likely to be encountered far from their homeworld. When a planet of one hundred million was annihilated, that left a few traders and scientists and outlaws offplanet.
One of the biggest colonies was on the world with the unimpressive name of Earth. They mostly fit in with the inhabitants, at least physically. There they mainly kept a low profile.
They were physically tough and strong and fast. They had a history of being fighters. However, even the most arrogant of them had to recognize that they were a species spiralling down into extinction. Having one's homeworld and 99% of one's species annihilated made for some degree of caution in many of the survivors.
Nodoka was not the first who discovered that Earth humans were genetically compatible, which was the other major reason that the biggest colony of Tatajin were on Earth.
So Setsuna watched and Ranma's life MOSTLY fit into what she had come to expect. Except that Genma wanted to go off with Ranma for a reason that had nothing to do with Ranma becoming "soft" - it was quite frankly that he needed a break from Nodoka. Someone strong enough that she didn't need a car jack when she had to change a tire had hazards in the bedroom.
Genma was strong and tough and not exactly light, but getting bounced off a wall by his sleeping wife was a regular occurance.
So, as soon as Ranma had a little sister on the way - Genma took Ranma off for advanced training. He'd told his wife he was going out for more pickles and MAILED the letter explaining the training journey.
He figured several months of head start was a good thing.
So Setsuna watched and things generally went along the same general line she'd expect. Oh, there was no cat-fist training. No Gambling King involvement. There was a yattai with a young girl named Ukyo, and-
