That evening at the Tendo home saw the three daughters, the father, Miyo, Yuka and Sayuri, and a man in clothing that denoted him as being a monk of the Buddhist faith. He was also a rune specialist, and apparently Miyo's uncle Sudoshi.
"Expert work except for the missing line," said Sudoshi, "it can be removed, but not by myself."
"Hmmmm," said Akane, trying to stay awake. "Whinut?"
"Wake up, Akane, this DOES concern you, you know," said Nabiki.
"She can't help it," said Sudoshi. "The Berserker Rune operates by removing the regulation of one's body and opening the chakra. The user goes through all the energy they might use in a day in a few minutes of the Rage. Like a candle that burns bright - it burns quickly as well."
"It still doesn't answer why you can't remove it," pointed out Nabiki.
"It's a matter of both legality and complexity," said Sudoshi. "Legally I can't remove this Rune without filling out the appropriate paperwork and getting an approval from the governing boards. I haven't done so because of two factors, one being the complexity of this rune. Bound to your lifeforce as it is now, it's a difficult thing to try and remove. I'm not sure I could do so without harming her. The second issue is the legal one - she'd be facing a stiff fine at the least and some other harsh sentencing at worst for visiting an illegal rune shop."
"So do it," said Nabiki.
"Nabiki!" said Kasumi, alarmed.
"Kuno has thirteen bones fractured," said Nabiki. "Four hairline, six simple, three complex. He's going to be on tube-feeds for at least a week. What if that had been you or I, Kasumi? How do we know she won't go off and attack others?"
"Nabiki!" said Kasumi.
"ben wundrn," mumbled Akane.
"No, it's not likely, even without the control line you'd actually have to be TRULY angry or fearful to trigger it, and how often could THAT happen?" asked Sudoshi.
There was dead silence.
"Not very often, eh?" asked Sudoshi.
"Home schooling?" asked Nabiki.
"Snds g'd," mumbled Akane from where she was resting her head on her arms.
"So, should I start the paperwork after all?" asked Sudoshi of Soun.
Soun considered carefully before answering.
