Then he set out for his more familiar stomping grounds. He considered the Tendo place briefly, but frankly the amount of memories there was enough for him to reconsider. He finally went with the Nekohanten. He threw out the stuff on the stove and started a massive amount of noodles boiling, with various ingredients out to add when the appropriate time came.
Most days, they'd made fresh noodles out of ingredients kept here in the kitchen. There were frozen batches kept for those times when martial arts battles and trips out of the area were necessary. So those would get used up, as this was definitely an emergency situation in Ranma's opinion.
The problem he ran into was that he just was NOT research-oriented. Not that anyone at Furinkan was a real juku-student type braincase. Most of the classmates he knew were basically slackers. Akane took some of that junk seriously but even so - it wasn't something she focussed a lot of energy or time on.
Aya had heard something about that once, Ranma could remember it as if he'd had a conversation with her years ago. Deferred authority or something like that. You only had so much time and energy to do stuff, and therefore you kinda focussed in on a few things you could do well and one or two things you knew a lot about - everything else you relied on outside experts as an authority on that particular subject.
Ranma found a mirror and set it up. With a little finagling, he could find the reflection of Aya Matsumoto sitting at a table nearby. She smiled and gave a timid-seeming wave at him. He found himself waving back before the weirdness of the situation caused him to shake his head and just get on with it.
When she picked up a newspaper and began studying it, Ranma frowned and looked around for the newspaper. If nothing else, it was a direction to start in. He finally decided that the best lead in the newspaper was:
