Genma swallowed the lump that rose up in his throat. "What sort of 'connections'?"
"Oh, they are people who don't like to get involved in the open, and like to arrange things from 'backstage', if you will. They can make people do as they wish, or can help those who have their support suddenly have no trouble in going ahead with what they want."
"Like...."
"This school, Mister Saotome. Do you think that I didn't consider how outsiders might misunderstand a place like this, where fights are basically controlled, and directed, giving true warriors a chance to grow?" the Principal asked in a soft voice that had a hard tone.
"You mean...."
"Yes, I do. This is a place where 'special students' come to learn both as scholars, and as warriors."
"Really?" Genma asked weakly... and then smiled broadly. "Well then, I have nothing to worry about."
"Oh?"
"My boy will grow strong here, and I can see that you and your people understand how good a fighter he really is. It's all due to my training, I must say, though I'm certain that the boy has to have inherited the special parts of the Saotome genes."
"I see...."
"But, of course that is to be expected, you know. Still, it is nice to find out that the government has been keeping track of just how special my son is," the man in the gi commented, puffing up his chest.
"No thanks to you."
"Excuse me?"
The Principal folded his hands on his desk, and sat as straight as he could. "What do you really think that the government thinks of your training methods?"
"They must have found them well worth their time to study."
"They did...."
"See...."
"As examples of haphazard and messy dashes to easy results that can harm your son, and others around him."
Genma's mouth fell open, and stayed that way.
"Your son is a very promising martial artist who is the front line defense against the destruction of Tokyo, and, after it goes, the world. You could ruin all that promise, as well as messing up your own plans for him, and the lives of others. That, combined with your past history training under the panty thief called 'Happosai', hasn't shown you as being someone trustworthy by my connections."
If he didn't think that he'd cause himself to be in more trouble, Genma would have pulled at his collar at that moment, while:
