"I wonder what that's about," Ranma muttered as he and Akane walked through the halls.
"It's about Kuno," Nabiki's voice whispered in his ear. He looked around, but sure enough, no sign of the older girl.
"They're probably just going to ask about what we know about him," Akane said, grumbling bitterly. She was still burning about those marks on her face.
"Ahh, Kuno-san," a voice called out, making Ranma and Akane tense. It was just around the corner in the hallway.
"Yes?" Kodachi's voice, obviously strained, asked. Ranma and Akane both thoroughly relaxed. "What do you need, officer?"
"We've been told your brother made an appearance at your home today?" the cop said.
"Yes, he tried to kill me and my friend," Kodachi said, there was little to no sign of her usual haughtiness. "I'm sure they gave you the details."
Akane winced at the statement. He'd even tried to kill his own sister. How far gone was Kuno?
"You left before the police arrived," the officer admonished, Ranma and Akane turned the corner to see Kodachi standing there as if bone weary while talking to the police officer. "As well as before the ambulance could see to you."
"There is pain," Kodachi admitted. "But it is minor and fading...I am fine."
"Regardless," the officer said. "I understand the medical facilities here are quite good. We'll have you looked over and then we need to speak to you about your side of things."
"If it must be," Kodachi said.
"Hey, wait up!" Ranma called. "We'll go with you."
"Ranma..." Akane grumbled under her breath as she noticed Kodachi's face lightening a little upon seeing them, though she managed only a quick glance and missed certain facts for the moment.
"Come on," Ranma whispered back. "We can't just leave her like that." Akane grumbled and nodded her assent as they walked over.
"And you are?" the police officer asked, drawing out his voice.
"Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo," Kodachi said, without either waiting for the other two to introduce themselves or looking toward them.
"Ahh," the police officer said. "They will be expecting you, but I suppose you can go with your friend first."
Akane felt strange at somebody calling Kodachi her friend. Kodachi was one of her fiercest enemies, the only one she never found a common point with. Though, of late Kodachi had been somewhat less strange.
Kodachi was quickly passed through the nurses office, with only a mild comment that her heartbeat was slightly odd, though it didn't appear to be causing a problem.
After that, they were put in the administrative office and set wait for their turn to be interviewed.
"My thanks, Ranma, Akane," Kodachi said casually. "Today has been...draining." She said no more about it, and they were soon joined by Nabiki coming out of the office to sit with them.
"So, what're you doing here?" Nabiki asked, after a feigned moment of surprise. "This isn't your school."
"I had some things to discuss with my father," Kodachi said.
"Well, your normal talkative self I see," Nabiki said.
"If you will forgive me," Kodachi said, gaining enough impetus to snap at Nabiki. "I am trying to sort many things out, I do not feel much like conversation."
Ranma and the Tendos watched over the girl curiously. Kodachi didn't usually brood like that. No, if something bothered her, she attacked it. She didn't, much as they wish she would, brood. However, the distracted did finally notice something.
"Good gracious me, Akane," Kodachi gasped out. "What has happened to your face."
Immediately Akane's eyes started twitching. She looked side long toward Ranma and Nabiki and released a low growl.
"Ranma's training me to block," she said irritably. Kodachi blinked and looked closer.
"Oh, those are words," Kodachi said, of course she had recognized them, but she still wanted to make the jab. "Ranma, I would find a tutor quite soon if I were you."
Akane and Nabiki burst out laughing at that, as Ranma grumbled irritably.
"Ranma Saotome," the receptionist called out, and the martial artist rose to go speak to the police officers.
