Remembering Motoko's complaints of an "unmanly" man in her last letter and deciding that by the complaints - little sister had a crush on some boy (who wasn't much of a warrior from these comments) she spotted the fishing rods with the little suction cup and immediately saw how useful this could be.
After all, the motion of casting the suction cup lure to a particular object would result in a sword stroke. A way to teach a basic manuever and build muscles without being too obvious.
Having picked the thing up, she visited Hinata House and gave out the gifts she'd picked up - wanting also to meet Motoko's new love interest.
She'd felt the weird vibes off the koi rod but hadn't figured out what it was when she'd found out this was one of the clumsiest guys in Tokyo. He'd snagged her while trying to capture one of the targets. Then things had gotten very strange.
