This is why he gave the two of them practically identical commands, with the idea that the two of them would be permanently matched for each other. It would eventually fall apart because they weren't mirror images of each other; they started with different abilities and personalities, and they'd change at different rates. Eventually Ranma's conditions would twist or break.
But there was a very real problem even greater than this; they were both lousy kissers.
Kodachi was raised in an all girls’ school on a diet of romance novels; her idea of a perfect kiss had no basis in reality, nor had she any practical experience. She wasn't even capable of stealing a kiss from Ranma when they first met, even though he was paralyzed at the time.
Conversely, while Mikado had kissed a thousand lips, he had never cared how the girl felt, nor had he cared for any of them. The girl was only needed as a prop with which he could perform, and as an adversary he could vanquish. He descended on the girls with less caring than Genma on an onigiri, for at least Genma was grateful the onigiri existed.
So instead of the two trying to snog each other insensate, they were both left with the idea, "Was that all?" Luckily both had started with the idea that they were world-class kissers, so they both assumed they had won easily. And when the other refused to admit to being bourn away on floods of passion, they assumed the other was just lying to protect their title. So they both left to practice, with the aim of developing a kiss so powerful that no one could deny being affected.
On the other hand, Sanzenin's partner, the kleptomaniac, spotted Kodachi's ribbon.
Azusa was safe from the depredations of the two kissers since she was the wrong gender for Kodachi, and because of a long-standing agreement with Sanzenin. She had become Sanzenin's skating partner before entering puberty, being a few years younger than him, and one of the stipulations of their partnership was that he never try to kiss her. She had him agree months before she started to grow into the kind of person he targeted.
Now, several years later, she still hadn't had her first kiss. This was fine by her. The thought of puberty with its associations of dating, making out, and sex frankly terrified her. This was reinforced by the abysmal way her partner treated all other girls. Honestly, if she had her way, she would remain a young girl forever.
This was one of the reasons she was so fixated on cute items. They belonged to an innocent time of her life, and so long as she maintained her fascination with cute items, the messy parts of being a teenager would never touch her. If she ever realized Sanrio made a "Hello Kitty" vibrator, her delusions would be shattered.
So, like a female Peter Pan, Azusa spotted Kodachi's ribbon, shouted "Martinet," swiped it, and roller-bladed away.
Unfortunately for Kodachi, as this wasn't an official Rhythmic Gymnastic match, she neither had any backup weapons nor a second to supply her with exploding balls or razor hoops. In addition, she had never heard of Azusa before this, so the theft was a complete surprise. Therefore Azusa had the necessary seconds to pick up speed to the point where Kodachi had no chance to overtake her.
Having succeeded in making good her escape, or at least securing an unassailable lead, Azusa decided to show off by making those cute spirals with the ribbon while skating. Unfortunately she was incapable and only succeeded in binding her arms to her sides as the ribbon contracted. Unfortunately she was unable to skate without the use of her arms, since she was totally unprepared for them to be taken out of commission.
Fortunately her forward momentum was safely arrested when she crashed into someone. Neither of them was hurt, as he was a tough martial artist, and she landed on top of him. Unfortunately for her piece of mind, she ended up straddling him, and their mouths were pressed together, effectively making this their first kiss for each of them.
His lips were slightly parted since he was about to shout a warning, and they were affixed against her closed mouth. She could feel his tongue lightly slide across her own lips in an inadvertent caress.
With her arms pinned and his powerful arms around her (he had been trying to catch her to keep her from falling) there was nothing she could do about the way she was straddling him, legs to either side of him and her crotch pressed against him.
That was when, without his awareness, Ryouga's hand slipped up her skater's tiny skirt, cupped one of her buttocks in his large hand, and gave a possessive light squeeze.
