It would take over two days for the little fly to become something that looked as if it belonged to the Carboniferous Era.
In the meantime, the fly would have gone on to infect other things it had landed on. Being a fly, those things included various dead things and a few discarded items such as a soda can.
While the soda can's contents were unable to do anything but carry additional spores, it allowed for the spread to a number of other flies. One of which was eaten by a bird.
The spore was, in essence, a terraforming tool that an ancient race had developed. Though terraforming wasn't quite correct, but as that alien world's name was lost to the eons - the term would have to do.
Another fly landed on a cat and quickly crawled over the sleeping animal, depositing spores. The cat was borderline however. Not only was it more difficult to deal with the complexity of this organism - it was of an intelligence level that was near the design level meant not to affected by that spore. Still, with eons of time for certain problems to develop - the cat became infected though not to the extent of the lower lifeforms.
The Race which had developed the spore had wanted to survive, or to leave a legacy. The terraforming spores were to do that by recreating their world wherever the spores ended up.
The spores themselves formed a fungal growth around their meteor. Had the planet they had landed on been lifeless but capable of eventually harboring life, it would have spread out over time and become the beginnings of a new ecosystem. Primitive lifeforms would have been enhanced into the sort of life the creators would have been familiar with.
On that beach they thrived. In the meantime:
