Lina was faced with a problem.
It had taken her some time, but she'd managed to work her way back to the gate. Keeping a wary eye on the immense shell that housed... that thing she didn't want to think about... she cautiously pushed open the gate, so she could return to Arvis' place for the night.
Unfortunately, it seemed that someone had been by and locked the gate, again. And while she had some skill at picking locks, she was under no illusion that she could do it while reaching through the bars.
She supposed that she could use her magic to blow the gate down, but that would attract attention, not to mention her spells were still limited and a bit unreliable. She didn't want to accidentally bring the roof of the mine down on her.
It seemed that she was well and truly stuck.
Grumbling to herself, she began retracing her steps again. Maybe there was an alternative exit?
She paused as a chill ran down her spine. She had a bad feeling something was happening...

"No reason to put ourselves at risk," Biggs muttered to himself as the trio entered Narshe. "You, Magic Girl! Take the point!"

Lina found herself looking at the Esper again. There was no other exit from this part of the mines. And the longer she was here, the more the sinking feeling in her stomach grew. Not the one say she was hungry, the one saying that there was a danger about...

With a flick of a switch, a beam of searing heat instantly turned one of the town's guard lobos into cooked dog.
Wedge, however was more impressed when the girl's armor opened up a different port, and a poison mist seeped out, making short work of a couple of Narshe Guards. "Damn, I want one of those armors."
Biggs snorted. "Forget it, that thing probably cost more than our combined salaries for the next two years..."

Lina made her way back to the gate again. Nothing. She really was trapped. She'd just have to blast the gate open, after all...

"We must defend the mines! At all costs!" a Guard captain cried as he sent his troops forward. They had some degree of confidence, backed as they were by a pair of domesticated Vomamoths.
Vomamoths were large beasts, five foot high at the shoulders, and covered in thick, coarse fur. With six inch claws on their paws and a pair of tusks as large as a man's arm, Vomamoths looked like nothing more than a twisted mating of a boar with a bear. The domesticated fiend was also one of the backbones of Narshe's defense.
They had every reason to believe that, with the Vomamoths backing them, they would halt the advance of the Imperials.
They lasted all of the two seconds it took for the gas ports on the magic user's armor to open up again.

Lina was about to begin chanting when the sound of footsteps stalled her. With the uneasy feeling growing, she slipped away from the gate and hid behind some rocks.
She recognized the approaching figure as one of the captains of the Narshe guards, and as one of the ones that objected to her presence the most vocally. She personally considered the man a petty tyrant who didn't like to be reminded that the world was, in fact, larger than his little place in it. She didn't want to think of what the man could bring down on her if he caught her in the mines.
She strained her ears to listen to the mans mumbling. "Damned MagiTek riding imperial swine... bet that red haired bitch brought them... should have just fed the flat chested runt to the Vomamoths when she arrived..."
Lina was seriously considering blasting the man to ashes when he began kicking the giant shell. Seeing the snail stretch out of its armor was more than enough to convince Lina to let it go... for now.

Wedge consulted the map they had of Narshe. "According to the report, the Esper was found in a cave at the end of a new mine shaft..." looking again at the map, he looked up at the mine they were before, "I think... maybe this one?"
Biggs shrugged. It wasn't like the townspeople around here had anything that could threaten three MagiTek armors, especially considering the witch's prototype. They could take their time searching. "Let's check it out."
