Lina carefully kept herself out of sight as she observed what was going on. The captain so far seemed content to mutter to himself, and to keep kicking the snail if it ever tried to go back in its shell. So much so that it was obviously getting in a very bad mood.
That was when she noticed the other sounds...
CHRRR-KLUNK! CHRRR-KLUNK!
Lina had never heard anything like the rhythmic pounding that seemed to be coming closer...
"Stand back, I'll take care of this!" a new voice called out from behind the gate, and moments later, a massive figure burst through, destroying the gate in the process.
At first, Lina thought it was some kind of troll or ogre, but then she got a better glimpse, and realized it was a man sitting in... a large, headless, statue?
As two more plodded up behind it, she could only wonder, were these the agents of the empire, and their infamous 'MagiTek?'

Biggs sneered as a lone guard walked out in front of them. "Hey, Wedge! Look! Seems we have ourselves a hero, here!"
The guard just growled, before yelling at them. "We won't hand the Esper over! Whelk, get them!" And then, just to demonstrate how brave the man was, he ran off, darting between the armor as the soldiers concentrated on the huge mass that began sliding toward them... revealing itself to be an enormous... snail?
"Oh, please tell me this is a joke..." Wedge muttered to himself.
Biggs frowned. "No, wait... remember our briefing on the fiends native to this region? The spoke about a very rare fiend that eats lightning..."
Wedge gasped, "and stores the energy in its shell! You don't mean...?"
Biggs nodded, "Yes, so use your strongest attacks, but whatever you do, don't hit the shell!!"
Wedge nodded, arming his armor's Ice Beam.
However, Whelk actually made the first move, suddenly opening its mouth and spitting out it's barbed radula. Biggs was struck in the shoulder, and when it was drawn back in, it shredded his uniform and his skin with it. "Shit!!"
Wedge wasted no time, striking the fiend with his Ice Beam. The beam of concentrated cold seemed to slow down Whelk for a moment, before it recovered itself.
In that moment, the sorceress attacked. Instead of a focused beam of energy, the energy condensed into an arrow-like physical form, that tore into Whelk's side.
Biggs snarled through his pain, and attacked with his Fire Beam. But just before he struck, Whelk ducked back into its shell... and Biggs couldn't stop himself in time. Without the Whelk's head in the way, the attack struck the shell directly.
For a moment, the shell just glowed faintly... and then a wave of electrical energy poured fourth, shocking all three of the MagiTek riders.
"Damn it, I thought you said not to hit the fuckin' shell!!" Wedge groused at his commanding officer.
"Shut up! Just turn on Heal Force, and be ready to hit it when it oozes back out!" was Bigg's retort, as his switched on the Armor's Heal Force, feeling his wounds begin to close up.
The end was rather anti-climatic, really. When Whelk's head popped back out, Biggs and Wedge struck simultaneously, before the missile weapon from the sorceress hit. The end result was bits and pieces of giant snail spread all over.
"Come on... if that was the guard, the Esper's gotta be around here somewhere..." Biggs said as he got his team moving again.

Lina shuddered at the disgusting mess left by the snail's death, but turned to look after the armors. She knew she really should just get out while she could... but...
Curiosity got the better of her. Silently, she trailed after the Imperial agents.
