It was big. Really big. Big and mean. Really mean.
All this was very obvious to Genma Saotome. He was a trained martial artist, of course. He could assess such things in a heartbeat. Even when his heart was racing THIS fast.
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!"
Taking its two hands and lacing the fingers together, an ape roughly the size of a modern skyscraper swung to the right.
THWAMMMMMMMMMMMM! An impact with one cliff wall sent cracks racing out from the point of impact.
THWAMMMMMMMMMMMM! went the left-hand cliff wall as the ape kaiju turned its attention there.
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!"
The cliffs collapsed as the kaiju began repeating this action, leaving the Valley Of Jusenkyo buried under rocky shrapnel with the exception of the pool the kaiju was standing in. The ape leapt free, and began heading towards a specific goal.
There was something that way. The strongest opponent within range. It would destroy it!
The gravel shifted, and Genma's hand thrust out, eventually followed by the rest of Genma Saotome. "Stupid boy! How dare you attack your own father?!"
That he'd said that at a very low volume was merely because he was having trouble breathing with all the rock dust in the air. It certainly wasn't fear on his part. Certainly not.
The Guide was aware that his hut was buried. He had food and water and air, and could dig himself out or go out through an escape tunnel at any point.
However, one didn't get to be the Jusenkyo Guide without learning to listen to that little voice of caution. Otherwise one ended up a cursed Jusenkyo Guide and that wasn't any good.
That little voice was saying to him - stay buried. It's safer that way.
So the Guide was sitting back, drinking a cold beer, and counting himself lucky. He was sure that other people were having an even worse time of it right now.
Of course, he was right.
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!"
Ryoga stopped. Slowly he turned, eyes narrowed in suspicion. That hadn't sounded right.
thoom Thoom THOOM THOOM THOOM
"AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!" said Ryoga, hair standing up and sending his bandana poofing off his head. He hadn't been ready for a giant monkey attacking!
THOOMISH THOOM THWISH!
The ape stopped, checked one foot, peeled the whatever-it-was off the sole of his foot and discarded it, then began the rush to battle again!
The item pulled off of the monkey foot stirred, lifting itself up briefly and painfully. "I don't know how. I don't know why. But somehow, this is Ranma's fault too." Faint!
Actually, had he known that he had survived with only a few bruises and contusions, Ryoga would have been very impressed with his own toughness.
A lonely Phoenix Mountain Tribe sentinel saw it first. He blinked and cleared his eyes with his hands but the object continued to approach. "Uhm, someone's approaching the mountain."
"So?" asked the supervisor down the tunnel, not looking up from her writing of yet another report.
"What's furry, has a long tail, and is about as big as a freakin' village?"
The supervisor looked up. "I didn't think you had a sense of humor. Okay, what's furry with a long tail and big as a village."
"That's just it," said the sentry. "It's coming."
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!"
"Oh," said the supervisor. "Well, I thought you developing a sense of humor was rather a stretch of the imagination."
The ape opened his mouth. A challenge was appropriate. This would do.
After blasting a hole through the apex of the mountain, a cloud of attackers began erupting from the mountain itself.
Growling and baring teeth, the seething anger within the ape's form prepared to unleash itself.
