Ranma's New Life: Pokegirl Setting Variant, Stage II [Episode 166644]

by Kestral

The first trip was in 1895 by Tesla, who was attempting to experiment with ultrasonic wave transmission. In July he had accidently created a wormhole that was 6" across. By November he had finished an apparatus in Colorado Springs that opened a 6 foot wormhole.

The world he'd visited was Adair, an Earth that had never gone through a Dark Ages but instead had continued technologically improving if they were sociologically stagnant. It still had serfs and slaves, the full aristocracy over everything else, and there was always a war going on somewhere.

Far from leading an away team himself, Tesla sent a hand-picked team of people he trusted. These came back with books and papers, and they'd built up quite a lot of information just from that one trip.

From those notes, Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing developed dozens of innovations in radio and radio-control, and began the process of developing a new sort of aircraft which could take off and land vertically.

A pharmaceutical branch was developed shortly thereafter in 1899, with innovations and discoveries almost tripping over each other in eagerness to get to the patent office. Only the people he most trusted were in on the deception, the others were used to Tesla coming up with all sorts of weird things that he pictured - which he'd been doing for years. This was just a flood of such as far as everyone outside that small circle of informed individuals were concerned.

Bakelite, a thermosetting plastic. Television. Pyrex, a new sort of glass. Neoprene, a synthetic rubber. Nylon. Germanium transistors. Wirephoto technology. Cadmium/Selenium photovoltaic solar cells. The Tesla Counter (a device which measures radioactivity). A cracking process for gasoline. Radar. Liquid fuel rockets.

In 1903 he opened a second wormhole, and discovered a downside. In THIS world someone had developed wormhole technology and opened it to everyone. The papers and books recovered clearly indicated that this was so, and that six months later someone had opened a wormhole into someplace that was hostile. The world of Urth had been destroyed in some kind of war using weapons that were clearly ahead of anything even Nikola Tesla had considered.

Again the books and papers allowed for the backengineering projects like the first, but it was decided that the wormhole technology would not be made public. The last papers published indicated that an enemy had found Urth because of the wormhole generations, someone else with the technology who had used the near continuous breaching of space/time to find their competition and crush it.

Since the wormhole technology was accidental and involved two separate experiments interacting originally - there was little chance of someone else stumbling across it and Tesla got together with his Inner Circle to disband the equipment and hide it by incorporating it into other experiments.

Tungsten filaments. Improved radios of the heterodyne model. Gyroscopes, stabilizers, and the gyrocompass. Stainless steel. Sonar.

Just some of the math coming out of Tesla's laboratories were causing ripples through the communities of the early 1900s. Some of the implications of which were hard for those in the halls of power to grasp much less accept.

In 1909, with things apparently spinning out of control in Europe, the Wondrous Apparatus was reassembled and a wormhole connected to a third world. This one was known as Reme and it provided the strangest technologies to date. Whereas the first two worlds had science whose principles were easily understood, this third was completely different and in fact - not of human origin.

The world of 1909 was very different in some respects, and so theories of genetic engineering and the possibilities contained therein were met with skepticism and outrage at first. In some quarters at least.

Tesla's company produced seeds at first. New wheats and oats and grapes that resisted disease and the predation of insects. These didn't generate a great deal of hostility, as wheat was wheat. Candyfruit (1910) was the first thing to really cause a sensation. A tree which grew a high sugar pulpy fruit surrounding a thick seed. Sugar plantations protested this new plant immediately as it was obvious that extracting the sugar would be ridiculously simple. Others decided to get as much of the tree as possible as it would take years for the trees to grow, and in the meantime their regular crops would still be necessary. Once the trees DID grow, they could switch production and take advantage of the new crop.

In 1911, the inevitable occurred. Rutger Langevin, one of the Inner Circle, disappeared one day - only to turn up in Austro-Hungary later that same year. Tanks were developed, followed by new rifle designs and manufacture methods.

The development of the Reflex System, where a human pilot's body movements translated directly into the movements of the linked machine, was in 1912. Austro-Hungary was looked at by its neighbors with some alarm, as their weapons technology was increasing at a rapid pace by the "disciple of Tesla".

That was nothing compared to the reaction of the world to the next development, which was:
