Outrider seemed to consider him briefly, then simply went to the exit. When he came back he looked at the Professor again before seeming to come to a decision.
The Professor was understandably happy that his status apparently was still ally.
As he'd hoped, the two skulking in ambush were gone. One had apparently dropped a pack of cigarettes, but there was no sign of them at present.
The cavern had been bad enough.

Professor Tomoe watched as the boy sealed the cavern by punching away at the wall to the side of the exit until it collapsed.
Then the boy simply turned and walked away as if completely unconcerned with what might happen.
They didn't return to the base camp. The Professor, in fact, wasn't sure where they were.
Neither was their Guide.
"Where are we, papa? Who's that?"
"That's the boy who got us out of the cave, and I don't know," said the Professor.
