But there normally wasn't an attractive woman seated on one corner of the desk with her shapely legs crossed in an almost lounging position.
Strangely enough, that didn't seem to be much of a problem for Deunan Knute. It told her that this wasn't going to be the same sort of place that she'd served in previously, and she was aware of a sort of... flexiblity here that wasn't around in many military outfits. This woman seemed to have an easy informality that more traditional officers lacked, but she certainly wasn't someone to laugh at.
Still, it was to the white haired man sitting with his hands folded on his desk that she directed her words as she sat back in her chair. "I get the whole 'secret strike team' angle, but what I don't get is why you're so keen to get the two of us to join up."
"That's really quite simple," Daisuke Aramaki told her. "You have some talents that we think that we can use in our organization."
"Is that so?"
"I could bring up your file if you want. Raised and trained by your father, and managing to not only survive in a world that was almost totally a warzone, but managed to make yourself into something of a symbol. Someone like you, able to take out entire squads on your own, without enhancement or special tools, is an excellent person to have on any team."
"It's not that we are ungrateful for the chance, but it's not like we've seen a lot of what you're planning," Briareos commented, holding one metal hand out, palm side up.
Tapping out a command onto the panel on his desk, Aramaki merely looked at them as the image of a dark skinned, white haired woman with really pointy ears showed up in a small hologram.
"Who's she?"
"Her name is Pirotess. She's a 'dark elf' who's decided that it would be good to join up with us," Major Kusanagi idly informed them.
"Aren't those guys sort of...."
"She's a good operative in covert ops. And she knows magic. We need that now."
Deunan's mouth twisted into a wry expression. "You know, if someone had told me back in Olympus that I'd be working with someone who'd seem to be connected with working with Santa, I'd have wanted to know what he'd been smoking."
"I know what you mean," Motoko murmured with a small smile, and the two women shared a moment of understanding while:
