The next day, they were still all busy working on the house. The griffins finished carrying all the tables on the terrace, and Nodoka was upstairs, sewing a magical garment for her husband (other than most wizards, Genma preferred wearing casual farmer's clothes).
Ranma was getting ready to merge the tables to a giant table, when suddenly someone tapped him on the shoulder.
He turned around to look at the smiling face of his childhood friend, Akane Tendo. Her father trained with Genma under Master Happosai before he gave up the ways of magic and became a swordsman.
Akane was wearing hunter's clothes, complete with quiver and short bow. She smirked at Ranma "Hey, what's up? You're all planning a big festival or something?"
Ranma shook his head. "Nope. Wish it were so. But Pops got elected as the Dark Lord, and right now we're preparing the house for Mr. Kuno's arrival, which is going to be tomorrow."
She whistled. "Wow, what a surprise. I never believed that man to ever come to an isolated village like this one."
He nodded. "Pops is pretty upset about the whole thing. But you know him... throw him a problem and he withdraws and instead takes care of his animal and plant research. Hey, cool outfit, by the way! So, does that mean you finally joined the hunter's guild?"
"Yup," she smiled. "Yesterday morning, my final test was to shoot a wild boar in the woods. Didn't stand a chance, I tell ya."
"What about Nabiki and Kasumi?" Ranma asked. "Are they doing well?"
"Never better! Kasumi turned our home into a tavern, with dad always being on some kind of journey... Nabiki got the offer to work as a financial consultant for King Endymion. She got pretty excited when she learned about it."
"I can imagine," Ranma snickered.
Akane looked around the terrace. "So, I've got nothing to do today... need some additional help?"
He smiled gratefully. "That would be great.

Somewhere else, in a different town, a different country, a different dimension...
A tall young man wearing elegant clothes was walking through the rooms of his father's mansion. When he reached a massive door, he knocked and shouted:
"Father? Father, are you there? We need to talk!"
The door opened. Inside, there was a big meeting hall where he could see various employees and assistants of his father sitting on a long table. The butler, who had opened the door, turned his head and called: "It is your son, Mr. Kuno."
"Tell him I'll talk to him later," the multimillionaire's voice responded. "I'm in a very important business meeting."
'As you are always,' young Tatewaki Kuno thought.
"I'm sorry, Master Kuno," the butler apologized while bowing. "But your father is a very busy man. Good day!" And he closed the door.
Tatewaki got furious, but turned around and walked away. He went down the hallway, up the stairs and to his sister's bedroom.
"Sister, are you there? It's me, Tatewaki! It's important."
Kodachi Kuno let her brother in her chamber. "Come in, brother," she said in a sad voice. "I guess our dear 'father' didn't want to speak to you?"
Tatewaki shook his head. "I'm afraid you're right. Unbelievable... after all, this house shouldn't even be his. He only inherited it from our dying mother because he tricked her. When she realized that he was only after her millions, not her love, it broke her heart..."
"And on top of that, we have to call him 'father'," Kodachi sobbed. "If our real father knew about all this..."
"Don't worry, dear sister," Tatewaki said. "On your birthday, we will join one of the tour groups, incognito. I already talked to Miss Meioh and Miss Kaioh, and they are willing to get us some fake passports. It will all work out, you'll see."
He stood up. "If our plan works, we'll not only get our rightful legacy back, but also never see this awful excuse for a human ever again. Trust me."
"I hope so," Kodachi replied. "I certainly hope so..."
