Coupled Union - With Wood: Time For Reflection [Episode 168034]

by Kender

There was just something about things involving 'romantic' situations in life that seemed to captivate girls, at least in Setsuna's estimation.

Oh, it wasn't the idea of having sex, though that did come into play somewhat, what with the ways that a girl could daydream about how her 'first time' would go. But no one could really doubt that a lot of teenaged girls spent time and energy doing nothing other than focusing on romance. They imagined what it might be like to be approached by boys deemed 'cute', considered how they would like to be dating said males, and could even envision their wedding days. Sure, there were a good many girls who would simply blow off such things, but then she knew that there were many others who who got flustered at the idea of getting their 'first kiss'.

Of course, the reason for her current ruminations might have been due to what she was seeing. Watching teenaged schoolgirls run around to create a welcome home party for a friend's husband on a moment's notice was not exactly without things to take note of. On the one hand, it was just the creation of a celebration of the return of a friend. However, there was also the part of it that was an attempt by girls who wanted to provide support and affection to the couple as a unit, and to their friends as people. Plus it was also an opportunity to coo over 'romance' as a whole, and sigh over their own daydreams in that area.

It brought a small smile to her face to see the girls all be taken by the whole romance of Makoto's relationship with Ranma.

Then again, Usagi didn't have much of a reason to not do such things. After all, she did have the love of her life in Mamoru. Those two had a bond that had survived the test of centuries, death, and rebirth. Not many couples could ever lay claim to that sort of love, and even if there hadn't been any sort of revelation from the future that they were going to stay together, their feelings didn't allow for any sort of doubt about it. So, it was perfectly understandable that the reincarnated princess was fairly dancing with joy as she tried to do whatever she could for the couple. That might have had her running around in an apparently aimless way, but then she'd never hidden the fact that she truly wanted to do whatever she could to make her friends happy.

Usagi Tsukino could not stop caring about other people any more than she could stop herself from taking another breath.

Still, the others were no slouches either. Ami had taken over the cooking duties, not because she was a good cook, though what she made wasn't bad by any means. It was just that no one wanted to risk allowing the two blondes to make anything, as food preparation wasn't their strong points. The idealistic young would be doctor didn't exactly mind, as she stood at the stove with a small smile on her face as she stirred the pots.

Her calm was in direct contrast with Minako's apparent scatter brained actions. Having her attempt to bring out some 'special' drinks for the party, she had turned her attention to a more mundane aspect of the party, the music. The others had seen her attention turn that way and relaxed. That... might have been a mistake, as the girl with the curtain of golden blonde hair was proving to have trouble picking out which genre would be the best one to use. She would pick out some slow ballads, and then realize that if they were going to celebrate, they might do better with some dance music. Then, once she'd picked out a few tracks of that, she'd recognize that this was to be a celebration of their friend reuniting with her husband, and would think that something intended for a more... private welcome might need to be chosen, which would bring out the songs with the suggestive lyrics and music.

It was about the time between the appearance of the party tunes and the discovery of the light instrumentals that Rei stopped being able to hold her peace. Throughout her attempts to straighten up, she'd been bombarded by a constantly changing rotation of music, all of which came and went within moments of starting to be played. Seeing her all flustered was rather amusing, and Setsuna couldn't help but compare it to what had gone on earlier. Doing such things wasn't exactly hard, and it was actually quite fun to watch, even when she directly done anything to make it happen. That was likely why it was so enjoyable to see Rei and Nabiki Tendo together, as the two could simply not stop from turning their attention to teasing and commenting at each other. The reaction was entirely instinctive, and the two of them kept on hitting sparks off of each other. Perhaps it was due to something similar to what was going on with Usagi. The princess was as emotional as the priestess, but where the blonde was all soft emotions, and affectionate, the raven haired girl was fiery passions and direct action.

As such, things were rather interesting when she came across Nabiki Tendo. Both girls were of the type to make sarcastic comments, but the slightly older girl used a cool, calm, and dry wit to the emotional, quick, and hot ones of the other. If only Rei knew just how close the two of them really were, and for how long they would be together in their relationship, things might have taken a rather quick turn. Furinkan's 'Ice Queen' and the passionate Senshi of Mars might have struck sparks off of each other, but they also did a lot to balance each other out, and that led to a good stability to their relationship. She did have to wonder about what they would think if they knew what the future held for the two of them though.

For that matter, none of the girls really had much of an idea of what 'romance' really could be. In fact, they were all really innocents in the way things could be in the joys of love, as they really hadn't had their opportunities to experience its highs and lows. But they would eventually get to do so, and in the process would learn to temper their youthful enthusiasms... hopefully. These were girls who had been worried that they'd never have their own romances, save for Usagi and Makoto, despite the fact that they were all of sixteen years old. No one was considering them 'spinsters' for not being already wed, and they had the time to find any 'true love' that might be waiting for them, be it with the sort of guy of their dreams, or with someone who might seem an odd choice at the moment, even another girl.

Not that Setsuna could deny that she wanted to get romantic with someone as well. Guarding the Time Gate could get lonely at times, and the idea of being able to go to her apartments in Crystal Tokyo to find a significant other waiting for her was appealing. Continuing to set the table as she had been doing, she let her face take on a wry expression as she realized that she was just as caught up in the enjoyment of the moment as the younger Senshi were. To be perfectly honest with herself, she had to admit that having a boyfriend in 'current day' Tokyo was something that she would certainly like. Finding a guy to go out with wouldn't be a problem, what with her figure. Arrogance didn't drive that consideration, as she had seen enough male appreciation for her legs, never mind the rest of her, to know that getting a date would not be too hard to accomplish. What would be rather bothersome would be to find that one person who would complete her, and who would be there for as long as they possibly could for her.

A small giggle escaped from her throat as she admitted to herself that she was just as caught up on the idea of finding her 'true love' as the younger girls were to finding theirs.

Yet, she was not about to use the Gate to 'cheat' to get to him, wherever he was at the moment. She had not been lying, or giving excuses to the other Senshi when she told them that she couldn't give them information from the future about what their romantic possibilities were. Even she could not change her own romantic positioning, as it would change what would be available to her. Sure, she knew who was involved who in the future, but to manipulate it could possibly mess everything up, and she didn't want that.

Besides, she did think that there was something rather enjoyable about 'discovery' and 'surprise' during a relationship of that sort.

So she kept on working on getting the table ready, while:
