Genma looked down at his friend's short haired daughter. "Is that so?"
"Of course. I mean, given the performance that you've already done, it isn't exactly like I expect you to suddenly become all that observant."
"I am so observant!"
"Not in a lot of things, and to be honest? You argue like a six year old."
"That's pretty true," Ranma murmured, not attempting to hide his grin. "Guess ya got his number."
"It wasn't that hard."
"Don't I know it."
"Stupid boy! Don't you realize that you should respect your father?!" the elder Saotome male barked.
"After knowin' ya for all of my life?"
"Grrr...."
"See?"
His mother gave him a slightly admonishing glance. "Really, Ranma.... You shouldn't push at your father like that...."
"Mom? He ain't the sharpest guy 'round."
"Be that as it may, commenting on his deficiencies doesn't help all that much."
"Nodoka!" her husband whined.
"Yes, husband?"
"Why do we have to keep on with putting me down? Can't we just have someone here be doing something helpful?"
Kasumi's lips pulled into a lightly disapproving frown. "Mister Saotome, we already told you that I made something for you to eat. It isn't very polite to dismiss it like that...."
"Saotome," Soun murmured in deceptively soft tones. "Are you thinking of being rude to my daughter?"
"No, of course not, Tendo! I was just.... Well, that is.... I am someone who is a stuck with a lot on my plate."
"And I hope that there is room on it for my daughter's food."
"Certainly, old friend. Besides, what sort of surprises could they spring on me, anyway?"
"I don't know. Maybe we could help you get a job. Then your wife would have a source of income, which would help her out," Nabiki suggested, her voice showing just as amusement as was in her eyes.
"A job?!"
"Yeah. I mean, I could help you get your foot in the door."
Genma spared the middle Tendo daughter a scowl. "And I suppose that it would mean that I'd have to do a lot of hard work, wouldn't it?"
"Maybe. Maybe not. I could always find you a job as a security guard. All that you'd have to do would be to stand there and look 'big'."
Akane looked at the elder Saotome male's belly and snorted. "Looks like he won't have a problem with the last part."
"True," Nabiki agreed.
"Don't I know it," Ranma sighed. "It's always there."
"It's not nice to tell people that they don't look good... even if it is the truth," Kasumi told the younger teens.
"Why do I feel as if I've been insulted?" the Saotome patriarch muttered as he looked around in confusion.
"Maybe if you were actually really observant, then you'd know for sure," Nabiki told him.
"Wait a minute...."
"Doing that wouldn't be all that good. Kasumi cooked, remember?"
"Oh, that's right!" the named sister gasped. "It'd be best to eat it soon."
"Then what are we waiting for. Let's go eat!" a bright eyed Genma told the others before striding into the house.
"Wait a moment, Saotome!" Soun called out. "That isn't quite the way to do this!"
Rubbing her temple, Nodoka watched the two men go inside before ushering the teenagers in after them, while:
