As he was now a 'lord' within the village, certain deficiencies in his style were to be corrected. He had no problem with that actually. It had three benefits: it ticked off his Pop, it improved his martial arts skills, and it served to strengthen his ties with the village. Win, win, win.
According to the way the mystic village hidden near Nara did things, Ranma was a master of taijutsu. So was Genma for that matter. Ranma was learning some of the other skills, rounding out his education as it were. He wasn't too good at the 'Art Of Illusion' part, but the chakra/chi stuff looked like he could learn it. In fact, something that Konoka's dad had said indicated that his trip to this world had left him VERY capable in that regard.
Genma showed signs he'd have been really good at illusions if he was allowed to do it. Unfortunately, he'd made a few comments to indicate his disdain for the arts being practiced there when he'd first met them. Then went on to indicate that Ranma shouldn't have gotten involved, shouldn't have saved lives, shouldn't have...
Anyway, that had started the little rift growing further between father and son and put Genma firmly on the list of people who weren't to learn the stuff the village had. That Ranma learning them ticked off his father was considered a good thing by everyone concerned, except for Genma himself of course.
Konoka was the village princess, who was coming along with Ranma because of some arrangement that had been made between Genma and Konoka's grandfather. Genma thought it was ticking off Konoka's father and had apparently found a keg of sake prior to making that arrangement, whatever it was.
The native Nodoka Saotome(who'd lost husband and son years ago) had thought it a grand idea and had signed on enthusiastically. (Ranma remembered her from their brief meeting as a mother/not-mother who scared his father for some reason.) Though sometimes she seemed a little confused as to whether the relationship was between Konoka and Ranma or Setsuna and Ranma or - whatever.
That native Nodoka Saotome was now learning stuff at the village, trying to become sort of naturopathic mage - if Ranma had the term right.
Setsuna was a student of some 'Gods Cry' school of swordsmanship. Really good at it too, especially if she got her wings out. Ranma had thought it was neat, the first time he had seen it when she'd slipped up on it. He'd told her so, checking them out and noting how soft her wings were. He hadn't said how much he wished HE had wings at the time - and could fly his dinner far far out of his father's reach. He still thought the wings were kind of neat and wished she'd show them more often.
So now Setsuna was Konoka's bodyguard, and Konoka was training as some healer-priestess type.
Kaede was split into a half-dozen duplicates and gathering firewood.
Genma was taking an impromptu nap after saying something about how the Shinmei School was weapon-reliant and therefore inferior to his own Anything Goes style and daring Setsuna to prove otherwise.
Setsuna and Konoka were having a conversation and looking up his way every so often. The giggling was kind of odd.
Ranma turned his attention back to the scroll and:
