Setsuna's Fault: Shaggy Dog Story [Episode 168644]

by Kestral

During adventures with the Doctor, Ranma Saotome had healed himself several times. His healing factor increasing to superhuman levels.

When the Doctor finally gave in to the inevitable, and having a Companion who was frankly quite a bit more durable than usual, he went ahead and played tour guide. It was something he generally enjoyed, no matter what incarnation he was in at the time.

When asked where/when to go next, Ranma had answered from the heart. So the Doctor and Ranma had a number of adventures in places where ancient exotic martial arts techniques had been practiced. On one of those adventures, they'd rescued a puppy. The Doctor had thought it was a harmless little thing and they'd find the owner soon enough.

The Doctor may not have been human in a purely species meaning, but he could err like one.

The dog breed had been tentatively identified, despite occurring in 9750 BC Manchuria, as a Great Dane hybrid. A little flopeared puppy who was friendly as all get out. Except he didn't like Daleks. Or Cybermen. Or various shapeshifting aliens in human form. Or...

He was a very good judge of character, as the Doctor had remarked on one occasion - this being AFTER it had turned out that whatever the little scamp was - an orphan was apparently also on the list.

The dog grew over the course of several years and several adventures. Now the beastie's shoulders when it stood were a hand width above Ranma's waistline. Thicker build in the front than the rear, but pretty massive taken as a whole.

Small kids and a number of other animals all flocked to the big doggie. Others seemed to find something extremely fearsome about a dog whose jaws looked as if they could sever limbs in a single bite.

Setsuna watched and saw the dog chase a car. Perfectly normal up until the dog CAUGHT the car. When the dog began dragging the car back (admittedly it was a SMALL car but still...) any pretense of normality went completely out the window.

Obviously that dog was a menace to the future. It was big. It was scary.

"Woof."

It was coming towards her?!

Sailor Pluto quickly shifted things. At least Minako hadn't been affected by HER travels.

"You don't really need things like that," said Artemis. "So you should keep them back for emergencies."

"But Artemisssss," whined Minako. "These are cool!"

"Okay, I'll admit that having extra weapons is a good thing," said Artemis. "Though Luna is going to blow a gasket when you whip out a Sontaran Pulse Rifle or Laser Sword while fighting yoma."

"Oh, I'm not going to use them in every fight," Minako assured her cat. "If nothing else that'd drain the batteries. The laser pistol has the lowest energy drain - so I'll keep that handy as a backup."

"That's a relief," said Artemis. "I just KNOW she's going to have enough trouble with this."

"Though I've got to practice more with that laser sword," said Minako thoughtfully. "There's just something fundamentally satisfying about slicing a yoma in half."

Shuddering, Sailor Pluto switched back in time to see:
