So, he wasn't exactly caught unaware by what was going to happen. All around them was silence, with even the animals disturbed enough to leave their normal territories. Only the sound of feet, both human and mount, stepping onto the path were audible, along with the sounds of breathing. Conversation wasn't exactly an important thing for the princess at the moment, so they'd continued on, with the rise of the mountains making each of their noises sound louder, almost as if to declare the importance of them being there.
That made it easy for him to see someone looking tired, both physically and emotionally, walking along ahead of them. He could sense the princess turning her gaze onto the figure, which he felt was a good thing. Obviously, that person was not someone to dismiss, and at the moment, some company didn't seem to be all that bad. Knowing this, he raised his arm and went to call to the person.
However, the appearance of a monster made it clear that their introduction would have to be faster and more immediate.
As the person reared away from the creature, he darted forward and whipped his sword out to slice the creature's head off. Doing that had the obvious results for the monster, and left the person that he rescued turning a surprised gaze at him.
"You... saved me," the person murmured, seemingly shocked.
Ranma cleaned off his sword and slid it back into its sheath. "It was the only thing that I could do. What about you? Why are you here?"
"I'm looking for someplace safe to go. I came from Silvermoon...."
"You did? You weren't captured?"
"No, I was off by myself when the attack started," the other survivor revealed, "and when I got back, all I could do was watch it end...."
"That's great! Not that you had to see it happen. But that you got away. I was in the battle, but managed to keep alive until they moved on. And I found her buried under some rubble."
"You mean... you're both survivors too?"
"That's what I'm telling you."
"Can... can I come with you? I don't have any idea of what I can do, and knowing that someone else survived is great to know...."
"No problem. No problem at all. Just one thing," he told the other survivor.
"What is it?"
"Who are you?"
"Sorry about that. It's just that knowing that other people survived is what stuck in my mind," their new companion admitted, who happened to be a:
