"Yes?" asked Hotaru, looking up and wondering if she should apologize. Having an older brother was such a task!
"I'd like to arrange a match between my student and your brother," began Genma.
Hotaru gasped as she glanced at the tall girl and the way she was regarding her "big brother" and put the interpretation on that ignored the martial arts gi the girl was wearing. "Oh MY!"
Makoto watched the boy who was doing bo-staff manuevers with a barbell that had a fair amount of weight attached. She found it pleasantly impressive. Also a bit scary since her sensei had mentioned sparring against this guy.
Genma wondered why the girl was blushing and twiddling her fingers. It was obvious that the little girl felt she was in charge of her larger and older brother, which was why he had approached her in the first place.
Hotaru was shocked. Wow. Her brother the ladykiller. Oh it was obvious watching this girl. Someone was in love with her brother. This was so totally shocking and out of the blue.
"Miss?" asked Genma.
"This is so sudden!" said Hotaru.
"Well, with martial artists it happens all the time," Genma assured her.
"I had no idea!" said Hotaru, glad she wasn't one. Some tightly muscular guy could just come up and say... well, maybe that wasn't entirely bad.
"So, shall we?" asked Genma, making a gesture towards his student.
"How serious is this?" asked Hotaru, wondering if Ranma was even ready for a girlfriend.
"Completely informal," said Genma, relaxing some. This girl was worried about doing a good job of arranging things. Probably a fight manager as well as a little sister who bossed her big brother. "Don't worry I can handle the details."
Hotaru thought about it. A girlfriend might help Ranma learn about being human. "Okay. I guess. Is there anything to do first?"
"I'll set it up," said Genma. Yes, he could just picture as if this were his little girl and the brother her heir. What a pity things hadn't worked out.
Ranma nodded as he and Makoto listened to this 'Genma'. Sparring. He understood it quite well. Fighting for real, except for the last inch or so. Practice combat using specific objectives and a list of proscribed manuevers. For one thing, permanently damaging the opponent was not desired.
Walking to the appropriate spot, he bowed towards his opponent and flowed into a ready stance. His opponent did the same, her ponytail flipping around behind her.
Genma nodded. "Begin!"
