Ranma loved it.
Occasionally he helped out in other aspects, but the monks here were dedicated to their training so much that they had developed a saying.
"Anything can be martial arts training."
Being surrounded with a group of dedicated martial artists in a harsh environment, naturally one would expect a little boy to wilt under these conditions. Those who expected that were severely disappointed.
In fact, the overseers ended up cranking UP the martial arts training on Ranma several times. They were delighted by an apt pupil, and the pupil was eager to learn EVERYTHING.
Some of the mages and clerics got involved. Warriors from Shou Lung, creatures from the Outer Planes, monsters from beyond. Ranma learned from each of them, sometimes through instruction and sometimes through direct combat.
At age eleven, his "Burn Knuckle" was enough to banish skeletons and zombies as well as do a fair amount of damage to things which were NOT undead. When he was twelve he managed the "Firebird Ascension" which caused his Inner Fire to emit a bird-like shape that could blast at a distance.
However, it was when he turned fourteen that he ended up going on an adventure.
