Certain builds were deemed unattractive and in fact many of those with such builds spent enormous sums of their hour-worth-compensation in some form of therapy regarding it. Ineffective therapy apparently as those afflicted with the disease were never cured, only treated.
One of the scientists came up with a tiny little modification that removed that problem and tossed it into the mix. That way a larger portion of the remaining population would fall within the reproductive aspects of the experiment.
Since each breed had abilities which would give them certain advantages and certain disadvantages, as well as looking different from the other groups, the experiment would then determine which breeding qualities were most valued by the species as a whole.
Of course, only one gender had been trimmed down and only one gender would be "enhanced". The aliens had removed much of the male populace and now the enhancements would be:
