"A new giant robot? What's wrong with the one you've got, that EVA thingie?" asked a genuinely curious Mihoshi. So her client was a real mecha pilot just like in those anime series she watched back at Tenchi's, how exciting!
Shinji knew that all things related to the evangelions were classified but having a sympathetic listener (even if she seemed to lack a few marbles) for once in his life, Misato not counting because she was a NERV employee, made him willing to talk "Well, it's like this... First, I have to pilot within a cockpit full of some disgusting liquid called LCL"
"Oh dear, it sounds pretty icky"
"Damn thing tastes like blood... Anyway, the worst part is the pain. The more synchronized to EVA I am, the more pain I feel when it takes damage"
"That is a bad thing, I suppose"
"Yeah... And I'm supposed to synchronize to the best of my ability if I want unit 01 to respond somewhat efficiently to my commands. Talk about a double-edged sword... And let's not forget the ombilical cable! Who ever heard of building a giant robot with a power cord and a ridiculously small backup energy reserve!" Shinji was obviously in full rant-mode, a rarity for the normally shy and silent boy. Mihoshi kept listening though.
"And the weapons! A pathetic knife, a rifle whose bullets cannot penetrate the enemy's hide and a big positron cannon who eats so much power we had to take all of Japan's energy for TWO miserable shots, *sigh*, It's too big and unwieldly for normal operations anyway..."
"That's too bad..." agreed Mihohi. She was sure Washuu would have created something MUCH better and kick-ass in a situation like this.
"The only thing going for me is the AT-Field but the angels have it too and they nullify each other..."
Mihoshi blinked "Excuse me? Angels? But aren't they supposed to be the good guys? Why would you fight against them?"
"Damned if I know... No one tells me anything beyond giving me orders to kill them. They ARE attacking us after all but that doesn't make it easier"
Mihoshi thought about what Shinji just told her and frowned. This wasn't supposed to be this way! As the hero of a giant robot anime, Shinji should have been a hot-blooded and reckless teenager with a goddamn impressive giant mecha with nifty voice-activated weapons. The poor boy didn't look like it with all the angst and self-loathing in his aura "At least tell me if you have a cool secret base, a romantic interest and plenty of support characters to help you..."
Shinji snorted "Well, the Geofront is a decent secret base (perhaps a tad too big). Support characters, no, can't say I have any and as for romance..." Shinji briefly thought of the girls in his life. Misato was too old and Rei too weird (even if she was making efforts since the last angel). Besides, who would be interested in a loser like him...
Mihoshi struck her fist into her palm as she had found how to correct this mess. She was going to give Shinji a way better giant robot to deal with those 'angels'. She slowly floated above the ground and closed her eyes in concentration, the glow around her intensifying as she gathered her djinni powers.
"Wish granted!" *CRACKLE-THOOM!!!*
And so Shinji Ikari was now the designated main pilot of the...
