Shinji grinned like a madman as he rushed through the halls and corridors of NERV headquarters, wanting to look at his new better robot. The ride down to the hangar bay was very familiar, except instead of the feeling of dread he'd always gotten beforehand, Shinji felt a feeling of... exhilaration!
Shinji wondered what his new giant robot would be like. Would it be sleek and cool? Or would it be powerful and practical. Anything would be better than having a cord hanging in back like a freakin' devil's tail. (Shinji made this connection between the similarity of his own EVA with devils quite a while ago.)
As he entered the control center, he was met with a bustle of alarmed engineers rushing to and fro.
"Flywheel?! The hell!" yelped an engineer.
"Heart Breaker?! Soul Breaker?! Aye carumba, what the hell kind of attacks are these?!" asked another of the engineer loudly and in disbelief. "Where did all the progressive knives go to?!"
"Something's very wrong with the simulation software! It won't let us fire off that new 'Heart Breaker'—" *BA-KAM-KAM-KAM!* "Oh, there it goes. Wonder why it fired now? Huh? It won't fire anymore! What gives?!"
Shinji blinked. Where formerly there sat a big monstrous barely-humanoid angular thing immersed in a pool of LCL, there now sat a more roundish, bulkier, more human-seeming mecha. Well, it was more inviting than his own EVA. A cursory examination of the specs (prominently displayed because the engineers themselves were trying to absorb what they were looking at) showed it was quite satisfactory: no direct mental connection, totally internal energy storage capacity, hardpoints obviously set to let him fly with a suitable strap-on, and other goodies.
Not only that, lots of structure obviously geared towards modular transformation; in fact, it seemed geared toward combining. Combining mecha! Kick ass! thought Shinji. I think I'm going to LIKE this robot!
