Back at Mission Control, there was celebration as the pictures and other data came through and was recorded. The various relays were lost, as was the original probe - but it had all been built for a one-use anyway.
The celebration was short-lived as problems were found. Humanity might be able to go into space, but they'd have to come up with new methods of control. They had aimed for one point, but ended up elsewhere altogether. They had a means of reaching the stars, but no control over WHICH star they were reaching for.
For Ranma, who didn't have that much knowledge about space, it was much less of an academic problem.
The air in the capsule was already getting stale. He was in deep space without any control over his ship. Even with his sporadic education, he knew that he was in deep trouble.
