He saw a small key resting beside a fully detailed humanoid doll wearing black masculine clothing. The doll also had a top hat and had brown hair. Even though it looked like a boy, there were distinct feminine features on the doll's face.
'What a detailed looking doll...' Seina dragged the case into his room and closed the door for privacy. Then he gently took the doll out, dropping the top hat in the process. Promising himself to place it back later, he carefully examined the doll.
The craftsmanship for the doll was extraordinary. His eyes absorbed every single detail of the doll, from the finely stitched masculine clothing to the material used to create the silky brown hair. Upon his inspection of the doll's back, he noticed a small hole. His memory jolted in, reminding him of the key in the case.
"I suppose I should wind you up then. It was what I asked for... but how did it get here so fast?" The young man came back with the key, inserted it into the doll's back and began twisting it. All of a sudden, he was pushed back by an unknown force and blinded by a strange light, causing him to shield his eyes. 'Why does this happen to me?!?' As the light died down, Seina continued to mentally moan how he always had rotten luck until a soft feminine voice let itself be heard.
"Ahem..."
Seina slowly opened his eyes to see the doll in front of him standing up and looking at him with her red left eye and her green right eye. "W-w-what's going on? Who are you? How... weren't you just a doll before?"
"My name is Souseiseki. I am the fourth doll of the Rozen Maidens. From here on, you are my master." The doll bent down on one knee and bowed respectfully.
"Say what?!?" Seina then noticed a peculiar constricting feeling on his left ring finger and looked down to see a brand new silver ring with a rose on top of it. "Where did this come from?"
"When you wound me up, a bond was established between the two of us. Your role is to be the protector of my Rosa Mystica and to be my medium. The ring that is on your finger allows me to draw spiritual energy from you and cannot be taken off. In return, I will act as your humble servant," replied Souseiseki without hesitation. She briefly raised her head and looked around the room.
"Are you looking for something?" asked the young man, noticed the slightly lost look in the doll's eyes.
"Master, when you found my case, did you find a second one close by?" Upon seeing her master shake his head side to side, Souseiseki took in the new information carefully. "I see..."
"What's wrong?" The look on his new servant's face started to concern Seina.
"My older sister's case would normally be in close proximity to mine. I'm concerned for her well being," said Souseiseki calmly. As calm as she was, Seina could still detect that small trace of worry in her tone.
"I'm not sure who else got that letter about a good luck doll. I mean, your sister could be in a prefecture far away from here but I'll see what I can do." A part of him couldn't help but wonder how the hell he's getting used to all of this madness quickly.
A small grateful smile made its way on to Souseiseki's face. "Thank you, master."
