Not so much that it hadn't done what it had.
Had this happened to Hiroshi or Daisuke, they would've remained blessedly unaware of any change.
Ranma, on the other hand, knew he'd been changed. He knew his body, the flows of chi, to such an extent that once he knew that a chi attack like the shishi hokoudan could be performed - he could work out a way of doing something similar suited to himself.
He wasn't sure what, but he could tell a few OTHER things by careful observation.
The remains of the ship for example. The plastic exposed to the atmosphere turned brittle and decayed. Metal was being stained. He saw all this and quickly figured out that the air was not suitable for human skin. Yet it wasn't until he took his shirt off and saw how quickly the fabric froze that he realized how cold it was.
There was no food, water, nor breathable air. Yet something was keeping him alive.
If he dropped something, it fell faster. He had to watch carefully to ascertain this, but it was apparently so. Another piece of the puzzle? Not that he was complaining, he was currently alive.
He'd also spent some time trying to figure out what had happened PRIOR to the crash. He'd groggily pushed his way out of sleep a few times and seen the others and remembered a brief glimpse of Mousse throwing something. So - Kuno, Ryoga, Gosunkugi, and Mousse had cooperated. THAT was unusual, but it had happened a few times. The problem was that this plan actually seemed to have worked. Ranma had NO idea how to fix the ship and get back home. He was a martial artist, NOT a rocket scientist.
Ranma sat inside what shelter he'd constructed and looked out at the landscape. The rocks kinda looked melted and were brittle, crumpling easily in his hands. The ground itself was thin gravel that crunched like ice underfoot. Whatever the liquid stuff was he saw, it wasn't water.
There was that city he'd seen, but it was a bunch of squat little towers made of some blue-white plastic-sorta and no sign of windows or doors. Not a phone booth anywhere he could see.
Looking at a gathering storm that was practically walking closer on legs made of lightning, there were that many bolts, Ranma decided his shelter wasn't going to last. Just the way the wiring harnesses seemed to be turning black indicated that. So he'd have to find a way into one of those buildings.
