Besides, he was seeing an Akane who was not only not biting his head off for having a group of girls hovering around him, but was actually giving him nothing but sweet smiles.
Now, that was something that was odd enough to make him question just how this could have happened, and given the situation, it was more than enough reason for him to act. He wanted to at least meet the guy who could do that to Akane, if not thrash him badly for what he'd done. "I really don't wanna go back just yet...."
"And why is that, son-in-law?" Cologne asked him, giving him one of her inscrutable stares. "Are you that in need of a chance to be attacked?"
"That's just it."
"Oh?"
"We need to fight the boss still. Heck, we ain't even fought the mid-boss yet."
"'Mid-boss'?"
"Best way that I could put it," the pigtailed boy mentioned, rubbing the back of his head.
"And that means...."
"With somethin' like this, ya gotta have some sorta person backin' up the big bad guy. The bigger the set up, the more work goes inta it."
"I can understand that much. That's why I suggested we leave, after all. Yet, you want to stay, even if we have to fight someone who likely has a lot of power...." the Amazon Elder trailed off.
"And who could hit us if we run. Better if we get him first, instead of waitin' for him ta come after us."
"Ah, that is true. An interesting observation."
A light flush grew on his cheeks, and he hid it with a snort. "What? Did ya think that I didn't know what I was talkin' 'bout?"
"Oh, no. I was sure that you did know something about the warrior arts. I just had to wonder about that 'mid-boss' comment'."
"That's... the only thing that I could come up with ta describe it. Hiroshi and Daisuke were usin' it ta describe games where ya sneak inta bases, so...."
"I see. You really should think more about what you follow with your friends. And if you are talking about those two boys you hang around with, they don't seem all that... reliable as information sources...."
"Think 'bout what sorta guys that I know, and tell me what I'm gonna have ta choose from."
"Good point," the Amazon Matriarch admitted.
Ranma simply nodded in response, and sighed as he tried to not lament how odd his life could get. For a moment there, he hung his head, and wondered why things could never go simply for him. For once, he'd had a time where he was not getting hit, yelled at, or grabbed on to, and he had to save the very girls who did that sort of stuff to him on a semi-regular basis. About his only moment of luck was that they would have to realize that he'd come to save them, and that would hopefully block off any problems that having to save them might bring up.
Then he saw Akane give him the oddest look and found himself rather confused with it. But, he reassured himself with the knowledge that it didn't seem that she was all that angry with him about any part of the situation. If his luck held out, he wouldn't have the tomboy getting screaming at and hitting him.
He just had to figure out why she was acting all... friendly at the moment.
Akane Tendo might have been sleeping, but it was not a peaceful slumber, though it had been. Rather, she had started to narrow her closed eyes, grind her teeth, and tense her body up, all like she was about to lash out at something. She wasn't able to wake up right then, but it was clear that something was intruding on her dreams.
It was almost as if she could sense something in the air, but could only act unconsciously on it.
So, she slept on, while:
