Everyone inside was unconscious and quickly gathered to the hospital where Ami's mother worked.
"What's going on with them?" asked Doctor Mizuno.
"Mind you, this is just preliminary," said the Professor, frowning as he regarded those present. "Our initial estimates on the shielding were inadequate. Hyperspace isn't anything like the 4D-space we're used to."
"Damnit, Soichiro, I'm a doctor not a quantum physicist," said Doctor Mizuno.
"All right," allowed the Professor. "Your daughter and I have been working on a possible way around the limit of the speed of light. A method of exiting the universe we're familiar with and entering a sub-universe where distances are smaller. The capsule was meant to travel fifty feet on attitude jets in that sub-universe and end up hundreds of thousands of miles away. Then they'd be able to return after depositing a small transmitter to prove what they'd done, using an anchor and winch if the jets failed."
"All right," said Doctor Mizuno. "I don't completely understand, but go ahead."
Professor Tomoe sighed. "The problem was that the sub-universe does not operate by the principles we expected. The sub-universe we reached contains a lot of what the cosmologists call 'Dark Energy' - an energy form which does not directly appear in our universe at all. That energy turned out to react directly to the crew of the JHCX-01."
"That still doesn't explain this," said Doctor Mizuno, gesturing to the monitors. "Ami's room has four space heaters in it, and it's still subarctic in there. Miss Hino's room is the opposite."
"Put them in the same room, it should even out," suggested Professor Tomoe.
One of the reporters cleared her throat. "Professor, HOW are they doing that?"
"They are accessing Dark Energy which is manifesting depending on some personality elements, or perhaps what they were doing at the time of the experiment," said the Professor. "Mister Saotome was in with the air tanks, and is a practitioner of a style of martial arts that I'm told specializes in mid-air combat. You've seen what's going on in HIS room?"
"He's floating off the bed regularly, and the air in his room has reached hurricane strength winds twice," said Doctor Mizuno, checking a clipboard.
"And Hotaru?" asked the Professor, trying to be clinically detached.
"Oh, she's fine," said the Doctor, "perfectly normal other than -
