Eyes flicked from one screen to another, his finger tapping a recorder. It had been meant to record his greatest triumph but now it would record his observations for the rescue. "Emergency recall procedure. Override denied? Still getting data from the capsule. The nature of X-Space. We were wrong. Dark Matter and Dark Energy. It's interacting with the materials - with the people. The capsule is breaking apart..."
Rei was looking at her console when it faded out and a shaft of pure plasma leapt from the plasma coil to her. The coil was designed to accumulate the charge necessary for the ring mechanism. At full charge it was hot enough to melt titanium. The heat blasted through Rei, not even giving her time to scream.
Rei was therefore a little surprised to still be alive at the end of it, not that she was thinking of it at the moment. Her world was pain and heat and it felt as if she were wrapped in flame.
Then the pain was gone and there was only heat. She was floating in that all-consuming heat.
Ranma was aware of the air tanks around him suddenly shimmering into nothingness.
Not that that was all. EVERYTHING shimmered into nothingness. Except he could feel the air about him moving away. Instinctively he tried to keep it from doing so, and was faintly surprised that the air responded. He cradled it drew it nearer, even as everything else not living faded.
His attention was entirely on the air, trying to keep it near and protect those friends he had made over the last three years. Just one little get together before his father took him off to continue the training journey, that's all he had been after.
The winds were caught and contained, but Ranma found himself at the center of a tornado filled with ice.
The winds almost seemed to be roaring through him.
Minako felt the power flowing through her. Felt the metal fading like everything else that wasn't living. The ship was stripping to its components, not just falling but flying apart.
She felt the air rushing back and... Ranma?! Ranma was holding it there. Giving them time to do it. There was Rei, a pillar of flame. She was all right in that?! No, she was drawing the flames into herself?!
She couldn't understand what was going on. Her mind seemed to be expanding further and further like a balloon. Like a balloon she panicked at the thought of it bursting.
Usagi shrieked as everything started coming apart all around her.
She could see things UNRAVELING around her, breaking apart in some weird sliding way.
"Tunnel is closing down," reported Professor Tomoe. "Data still accumulating. Capsule is... coming back together? The Dark Energy is cohesive somehow. Retrying emergency recall procedure. Tunnel collapsing."
