The dementor had evoked a nameless sort of despair that sunk into her body bone deep and that provoked a brief hallucination of her brother before.
This was raw terror holding her now. She could not imagine how her brother had tracked her to this place supposedly hidden from the eyes of "muggles" such as her brother. She could not imagine what he would do upon finding her so young, and still wielding weapons.
The scowl on his face deepened and Kodachi huddled back in response.
Now he would lecture her about how mother had done things. And he would drag her and ask her about how she got so young anyway. Then perhaps he'd find something to make her older, and achieve his goal completely.
Kodachi whimpered as the beast came closer.
"Mother is dead, long live Mother." The little quote came to her in a brief spite of anger, and it perfectly discribed her situation.
Kuno missed his mother...so Kodachi would supply one. He'd make sure of it. And he'd make sure she was absolutely correct on all details.
She wasn't sure what happened next in her confusion. Somebody pushed her aside, her brother seemed to be replaced by a little white orb. Then somebody shouted "Riddikulus" and the orb became a sunflower and retreated into the cabinet again at the sound of much laughter.
It was enough to make her think she'd truly snapped this time.
"Are you all right miss...?" a male voice asked. She blinked and looked up to see that teacher from before on the train. The one with the tattered clothes.
"Where'd my brother go?" Kodachi demanded, looking about wildly.
"Your..." the teacher, himself seeming as tattered as his clothing, frowned and then shook it off. "That was a bogart, they don't like to be bothered. To make people leave them alone, they make noises, like knocking on the walls of their hiding place, and taking the form of the person's greatest fear."
Kodachi blinked for a moment and then nodded...
"Oh..." she said. "I see."
"I meant that for the third years," Lupin said. "But perhaps, if you have time after classes, I can teach you a few tricks in case you run across another one."
