Proffessor Snape inwardly sighed. Once again, Hogwarts was hosting a celebrity of sorts. And just like Potter, Ms. Hecate seemed to think she didn't need to pay attention in his class. Well, even if she was from his house, best to curb that ego now, rather than let her head swell too much.
Of course, Snape didn't know that Kodachi was still trying to recover from her brush with a bogard. It had stirred up far too many old memories for her comfort. She was startled out of her thoughts when Snape addressed her directly.
"Ms. Hecate! You don't seem to be paying attention. Perhaps you feel you don't need my class? Then surely you know what Wolvesbane and Nightshade have in common."
Realizing he was waiting for an answer, Kodachi pondered that a moment. "Aconite and Belladonna, or Wolvesbane and Nightshade, if you prefer, are both sedatives, and can be poisonous in high doses. Belledonna is also a diuretic. Not to mention, that once you become tolerant to it, belladonna adds a wonderful kick to many meals." She stopped for a moment, and then added, "Oh, and they are both supposed to have some uses in warding of werewolves."
Snape blinked. It appeared she might now some things, after all. Still, this trick usually catches them... "And what uses do Felwart, Dead Men Bells, and Monkshood have?"
Kodachi took a moment to figure out which was which, and then answered. "Gentian, or Felwart, is useful in making anti-toxins. Digitalis, also known as Dead Men Bells or Foxglove, can help stimulate the heart." And then she mock glared at Snape. "And Monkshood is just another name for Aconite."
Snape narrowed his eyes. "You may know what is what, Ms. Hecate, but if you don't pay attention, you will never find out how to bring out the full power of and concoction..." and with that, he went back into his standard first-year oratory.
Inwardly, though, he was smiling. Ms. Hecate seemed quite well versed in the basics of potion brewing already. Keeping her attention in class was going to be something of a challenge. It looked like this was going to be an interesting year...
