“I can’t believe we’re letting him do this,” growled Rei.
Haruka sighed. “Are you permanently against men?” she asked. “Or is your learning curve a downward curve?”
“But he comes in here, acting like a pervert, and then says we have to share rooms now,” said Rei.
“You mean because you guys were skimming on the rent,” said Haruka. “And may I remind you that from his point of view, it was us who were being perverts? Isn’t that right, Ami?”
The blue haired girl blushed, remembering her encounter.
“Ami, we’re friends, you can tell us,” said Minako. “How big was he?”
“EWWWWWWW!” said a few of the girls.
“You should really calm down, Rei,” said Setsuna. “Trust me when I say he is far from being a pervert. He might be brash, act rashly at times, and be missing that little filter in our heads that say it might not be sociably correct to say a few things; but he is far from a pervert.”
“Besides,” said Usagi, “if he leaves, then we have to too!”
“But what about Luna and Artemis?” asked Makoto. “And if we have other tenants, what then?”
“Yeah,” said Rei. “Like we’ll believe someone really threw him into a pit of cats, covered in fish products, at the age of six.”
“Actually,” said Setsuna, “that is how the banned martial arts technique called the Nekoken is taught.”
Seeing their stares, she continued. “It was banned because ninety-nine out of a hundred students of it are driven permanently insane, and always think they are cats. Out of a thousand students, only one won’t attack friend and foe alike and leave their bodied corpses laying around. Out of ten thousand students, only one will be able to snap out of it after a nap, and not be in the feral state.
“So yes Rei, the technique is very real. Even with intense psychotherapy, Ranma might never be able to be anywhere near any type of cat.”
The others could only stare.
“Man,” said Haruka, shaking her head, “my family is really fucked up.”
“Is he dangerous?” asked Ami.
Setsuna shook her head. “No. The one like him won’t be dangerous in the Nekoken unless you really make him an enemy. Otherwise, he’ll just be an overgrown kitty, look for a nice lap to lay in, and go to sleep ... assuming he isn’t chasing butterflies or mice.”
“Maybe Luna could help him?” asked Usagi.
“Yeah,” said Minako. “Artemis can do that Romulan mind mold thing.”
“Vulcan mind meld,” corrected Makoto.
Setsuna shook her head. “No clue, I’d have to do some research at the Gates, first. But since they’ve been staying at your parents until we finished setting up here, I think they’ll be okay waiting a few more days.”
“Hey,” said Michiru, “where’s Hotaru?”
“Oh,” said Usagi, eating a cookie, “ she said she was having nightmares and went to go see if she could go sleep with her Sempai. These cookies are really good, Mako-chan.”
The others could only stare at her. “What?”
Ranma was finally starting to drift off to sleep, despite the odd feelings that the sleeping Nabiki were generating, when a quiet knock came on his door. “Sempai?”
“Huh?” he asked sleepily.
“Can I stay with you for the night?” asked Hotaru, peeking into the room. “I’m having nightmares.” She had been real careful to say ‘stay’ and not ‘sleep’, giving how bad his previous experiences with women were.
“Sure,” Ranma said, his mind slipping back to the comfortable fog of the Land of Nod, opening the covers on the side not currently being occupied by Nabiki.
Hotaru smiled as she entered the room, shutting the door quickly and quietly, as she made her way over to him. Quickly getting under the covers, she began to snuggle into him, smiling at how nice it was. Blushing at such thoughts, she looked into his face, trying to ignore Nabiki’s across his chest as she slept. He’s so kind.
Smiling, she drifted off to sleep as well.
