Nabiki awoke to an incessant knocking at the bedroom door. Normally, she’d sleep in on a day like this, but someone was obviously not allowing her that.
Rolling away from her sleep partner (she was the type to remember where she went to bed the night before, and with who), she stomped to the door. Opening it, she found Setsuna waiting in front of it, smiling apologetically and holding a cup of coffee. “Here, thought you could use this before we talked.
Normally, the Ice Queen of Furinkan High would have sedately drunk her coffee. However, she wanted to have a proper ‘conversation’ with this woman, so she chugged it down, ignoring the fact that it was rather hot. After drinking about half of the cup, she stopped, waited a minute for the caffeine to enter her system, and then gave the green haired woman a rather irritated look, “All right, what do you want?”
Setsuna shrugged apologetically, “I thought I’d try and alert you to the fact that my adopted daughter was having trouble sleeping last night, and may have decided to seek comfort from her new older brother figure.”
“What’s that got to do with…” Nabiki snapped before the words sank in, and she slowly turned around to look at the still sleeping Saotome and the small, dark violet/black haired girl curled into his side.
Before she could think to react to this, she felt Setsuna’s hand gently grab her shoulder. The older whisper murmured into her ear, “She’s led a rather harsh life before I managed to adopt her, and is still relatively innocent about things like this. It will be several years before she is mature enough for me to really have to worry about this, and even then, we both know Ranma-kun would never take advantage of her like that. She’s not a threat, unless you take too long to capture his heart, that is.”
Nabiki flinched at that, and, grabbing Setsuna’s arm, led her out of the room. After securing the door, she hissed, “How … what makes you think I’m interested in him?!?”
Setsuna only smiled, “I have a slight… precognitive ability that allows me to read into certain things… future events, motivation, things like that. It’s not much, but I can definitely see that he interests you, but you’ve done several things in the past that has made him wary of you. You aim to prove to him that you’ve turned a new leaf, so to speak, and that you’re worth a second chance.” The green haired woman grinned at the stunned look on the other girl’s face before dropping the next bombshell, “You also see me a threat for winning him over.”
The mercenary Tendo flinched at this, but before she could raise an argument, her opponent continued with, “Mind you, if it takes you too long to get him, I may decide to join the game, but I’m just OK with staying out of it, for now. Much more fun watching than playing, in this case.”
Nabiki took a few deep breaths to calm herself, and then asked, “So you some kind of psychic, eh? Considering what Saotome-kun draws, I could believe that, but do you have any other proof to back it up? And what makes you think that I’ll believe that you’re out of the running? You seemed pretty excited to see him yesterday… And how the hell did that girl get away with staying in our room? I would have expected at least two of the other girls to storm in looking for her or something…”
Setsuna laughed, “Oh, Rei-chan wanted to, but she was unfortunately tied up before she could try. Ami was easily cowed after that, and the rest of us were willing to give you guys a chance. As for yesterday, I admit I was rather excited to see Ranma-kun, but then again, he’d probably be that excited to see someone who had saved him from a cat.” She then blushed, “To be honest, his dislike for cats is the only thing that eclipses my fear of cockroaches.”
“As for advice, I would call your school’s science club right away and demand that they get over here soon. Also, call the nearby lumberyard and ask for a shipment of supplies to be sent up here; they had a deal made with the previous management that will give us a decent discount, so be sure to ask for Hiroki-kun. Wait three days before calling your elder sister, since that will be the day your father will go on a training trip with Ranma-kun’s father; your sister will likewise be out, and the other two girls will still be out of town. As for Hotaru-chan, you may want to play the role of big sister figure in this case; it just might earn you points in Ranma-kun's books.”
Setsuna then turned around to head back downstairs, but not without a parting word of advice, “Also, you may want to find someone looking for potential business venue to rent, or else we may end up with an Okonomiyaki or a Ramen shop nearby, and I’m sure neither of us want that… especially if I have to negotiate my girls out of a Kiss of Death…”
