Somewhere in Hispania, on the plains near Munda (in modern days Montilla)...
After Julius Caesar's victory, all of Hispania was now under his control. Before returning to Rome, he decided to honor his troops in a special ceremony.
A few days later, Caesar was still in his command tent in Hispania, getting ready to leave for Rome, when suddenly, the general of his troops entered the tent.
"Ave, Caesar!"
Julius Diamondus Caesar grinned and turned around. "Ave, ave, my dear Claudius Rubeus! Well, veni, vidi, vici, once again, eh?"
General Rubeus sighed. "Not quite vici, I'm afraid... There's still a small village near Munda... and their inhabitants just won't stop resisting our troops."
"Well, just as stubborn as that village in Gaul, huh?" The emperor sighed. "I guess I have to reschedule my departure... I need peace in my new provinces."
He put on his cloak. "Guide me there, General!"
Rubeus saluted. "Right away, my emperor!"
----
Shortly after, Caesar, Rubeus and their troops were leaving their camp on horses, riding towards the small, rebellious village.
Finally they stopped at the foot of a grand hill, where they could see the high walls that surrounded the village positioned up there.
"Is that it?" Diamondus asked.
Rubeus nodded. "Yes, Caesar... It will be hard for our troops to defeat them at that position."
"We have conquered most of the known world, we can take on a small village..." the Roman emperor grumbled.
Rubeus didn't say anything, but raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, okay," Caesar admitted. "As long as they don't have a magical potion..."
They wanted to go on, but suddenly a loud voice shouted:
"STOP RIGHT THERE, ROMANS!"
Caesar frowned as he saw the person who was standing in their way... it was a small boy, with light, violet hair, dressed in the native's clothing. In his right hand, he was swinging a slingshot.
"Stay back!" the boy commanded.
Caesar grinned. "Well, what's the name of my 'fearsome' opponent?"
The boy took on a proud pose. "I am Calzoncillo, son of the village's chief... but you can call me Trunks."
The emperor pointed at the boy. "Get him!"
Trunks smirked and shouted: "Finish Buster!"
And he shot a large stone at Caesar's head.
"OUCH! Take away his slingshot!"
The Romans managed to subdue him, but not without suffering from various kicks, bites and scratches, or additional hits from rocks.
"Well, he certainly behaves like a leader's son," Caesar grumbled as he watched the struggling form of the boy, while one of his soldiers held him tightly.
They continued their way, until they stood in the front of the village gates... which were closed, of course.
Caesar raised his voice and shouted: "Julius Caesar wishes to speak with the chief of this village!"
And then, a muscular man appeared on top of the walls, with black hairs that were spiky and erect. He stared down at the assembled Romans without any sign of sympathy.
Caesar grinned and raised his hand. "Ave!"
The Hispanic didn't greet him. Instead, he said: "I am Verdura, chief of this village! Get out of my sight, puny Romans, or we will burn you in olive oil."
Caesar couldn't stop grinning. "You won't do such a thing, dear chief... for I have your son!" He gestured towards the violet-haired boy, who was once again biting the finger of his guard.
Verdura snarled and raised a fist. "Pray that we never meet alone, Roman... I would kill you right on the spot!"
"We will take your son with you," Caesar smiled. "And I suggest you and your people start behaving like good little Hispanics and surrender very soon... or you'll never see him again."
He turned around his horse and rode away, followed by his general and his troops. Every now and then, one could hear a sharp yell as their hostage bit into yet another finger.
Verdura gritted his teeth, knelt down on the wall and angrily smacked his fist downwards.
When he climbed back, the crying face of his wife Braga waited for him.
"What... what are we gonna do?" she sobbed. "He can't take away our Trunks..."
"For now, we will just wait and keep up our defenses," the Hispanic chief growled. "I will come up with a solution, and if it's the last thing I do." Then he sighed. "Well, at least I know that our boy will give them a hard time." He grinned.
