Setsuna's Fault - GCS: a UNIT of prevention [Episode 176428]

by Kestral

"Sasuke?" asked Setsuna.

Pluto tried not to eep as someone materialized out of nowhere near her elbow. "Yes, ma'am."

"Chair," said Setsuna.

"Right away, mistress," said Sasuke with a slight bow.

Sailor Pluto blinked a couple of times. "THAT is Sasuke?!"

"Yes, why? What did you expect?" asked Setsuna, curious.

"I expected someone about this tall," said Pluto, holding a hand up at about hip level. "Scrawny, bucktoothed, incompetent."

"Sasuke isn't the most talented ninja out there," admitted Setsuna. "Not even the most skilled such in my family's employ."

"You have ninja-on-staff?" asked Pluto.

"They're not assassins, more family servants descended from ninja who keep the skills up," explained Setsuna. "Other than Sasuke and Smithers, it is a very rare occasion to even see one of them. Sasuke is sort of their spokesman and go between. I understand most of them are extremely shy by nature or something like that."

Pluto looked around, wondering if there were hidden housekeepers lurking about waiting to pounce on any dustbunnies that might wonder by. Okay, maybe the new Kuno family was still weird. "So... you work for UNIT?"

"United Nations Intelligence Taskforce," said Setsuna as she settled into an antique-looking chair that Sasuke had reappeared with. "Thank you, Sasuke. Could you make sure that we are not disturbed?"

Sasuke bowed again in response, his glittering catlike eyes briefly meeting Pluto's before he backed away and vanished again.

"What exactly does UNIT do?" asked Pluto.

"Mainly coordinates," said Setsuna, making an offhanded gesture. "Senshi-type menaces can be dealt with by Senshi. Since their magical powers and defenses aren't nearly so good against non-magical opponents, other menaces get other defenders involved."

"OTHER menaces?" asked Pluto.

"Oh yes," said Setsuna, beginning to pick off points with her fingers. "Supervillains, espers, infiltrating alien shapeshifters, puppetmasters, terrorists, mad scientists who embrace their dark side..."

"'puppetmasters'?" asked Pluto.

"Manipulators of events who hide in the shadows and use their minions to influence the masses through various means," explained Setsuna. "Most of these are human and regard the suffering of those lesser than themselves to be both entertaining and proof of their own superiority. Difficult to find and root out, often they get their position through magic or some bit of alien technology they've come across that they can misuse. As for the mad scientists, we only have to reign in the more eccentric or diabolical. In any case, you don't send Senshi to fight some martial arts supervillain. Senshi attacks and defenses aren't really designed to cope with the speed of attacks and even Jupiter's strength doesn't protect her joints from being dislocated."

Pluto shook her head. "This is all so much to take in."

"Well, be it as it may," said Setsuna. "I'm a little surprised that you find Ranma Saotome such a thorn to be plucked. After all, he's the fiance of -"
