“...Nuku Nuku girl.”
It hadn't taken long for them to discover the whereabouts of their target. Nor had it taken them long to discover the route that the red haired girl took to and from school.
Ranma seemed to think it was a parlor trick, however, when the girl managed to travel from point A to point B in less than 5 minutes on bike. It seemed that his soldier was giving the bike an unhealthy amount of attention during their stakeout.
As he peered in through the window of the apartment, Orion noticed that the Nuku girl seemed very impressionable to her father and her brother. And the father appeared to be very protective of both. Not unexpected, but it made the situation difficult.
If he had any chance of convincing her to join them, it would have to be alone.
This time she was on foot. The two watched as her brother struggled to pull her away when she froze at a fish stand. It seemed that she liked fish. Orion filed that away.
Ranma stopped jumping across rooftops when Orion leapt out of his arms and ran to the edge of the roof.
“Buy one,” the gray cat ordered as it peered down at a roadside stand where an unsuspecting vendor was spouting about the freshness of his wares to the early morning crowd.
The item in question was the fish packed in ice.
“Why?” Ranma challenged. His wallet wasn't large to begin with, and he had no problem catching a few with his bare hands.
Orion sighed. Why were people always quick to assume the worst. “Contrary to appearances, it's not for me.”
Ranma snorted, obviously not believing the talking cat's claim for an instant. He suddenly yelped and leapt away.
“What was that for?!” he demanded angrily.
Instead of responding, Orion calmly licked his foreleg.
An elderly couple looked up when they heard the noise. And then they stared at the loon on the rooftop that was arguing with his cat. They weren't the only ones.
Ranma finally noticed all of the eyes on him, and he quickly backed away from the edge of the roof before glaring at the cat. “Now look what you've done,” he growled quietly.
Ranma finally gave in and bought the fish, but not before extracting a promise from Orion that the cat wouldn't eat it.
The two stood upon the wall that separated the high school from the elementary school.
“So let me get this straight, once she drops off her brother, you want me to throw this,” he held up the paper sack containing something that smelled suspiciously fishy, “At a girl speeding by on a bike at 100 kilometers per hour and you want me to hit her before she enters the high school. Are you crazy?
“Can't do it?” Orion taunted.
Ranma bristled. “Of course I can. It's just a horrible waste of good food.”
“You have any better ideas?”
“Yeah. One.”
The three were crouched in front of a portable grill. Nuku Nuku was finally finished with her impromptu meal. She licked her fingers and stared curiously at the two.
“So it worked,” Orion grumbled as he warily checked their surroundings. While his plan would have allowed them to drag the girl into the bushes after she was knocked off of her bike, Ranma's plan left them in the open for all of the other students to see. “Somewhat.” He was surprised that the smell of cooked fish that lingered in the air hadn't drawn any cats from a mile away.
He was about to ask Ranma to do the talking when he noticed that his soldier was busy staring at the ordinary looking bike that was propped against the wall.
He turned back to the red-haired girl. Now how would he broach the subject?
