Not that his son seemed to be 'following the program', so to speak. It wasn't exactly like the boy was dealing with quite the same hardships, given that his mother was an alien. When a boy could crush wood posts with his bare hands, attacking him with railroad ties didn't exactly work as planned. Trying to beat on the boy didn't help, since his son had a 'thicker hide' than most children his age. Even putting his son into positions of danger didn't help, as the boy was too naturally strong to be all that threatened by things that would normally terrify a little boy to death.
Now his son wasn't even there, as he was apparently playing hooky. Well, he did have a little hope that his son was enjoying himself, and not just because the idea of a grumpy Ranma wasn't all that welcome. His son had to work hard, and he wanted his boy to go on 'adventures', as those sorts of things could do wonderful things for a little boy's self confidence and stamina. He just hoped that there would be nothing that would pull Ranma away from the path of being a martial artist, though he didn't think that such a thing would always happen. Of course, there was no way that he was going to 'lose' his son in any case.
He didn't want to think what his wife would do with the family katana if he managed to screw up that badly.

In fact, other than not being too keen on the idea of Ranma playing around with them, he didn't seem to mind them. Of course, his father didn't seem to be all that happy if he got interested in something that wasn't directly involving the Art, but then that could be understood somewhat.
The little boy didn't really understand it, but then he didn't particularly care all that much. To him, that was just the same sort of strange 'adult' stuff that he wasn't sure that he'd understand when he get older. Every person seemed to have their own strangeness, and he just didn't really want to try to figure it out. For him, there was no reason to particularly be reluctant around them any more than he would any other strange and hard to understand being. They could be fun to be around though, and he was certain that he could be perfectly fine, and even enjoy being around them from time to time.
This was one such time, as the girl in front of him was proving to be pretty fun to be around. He'd come across her by accident, but the two of them had quickly settled into a connection that seemed to perfectly fit the two of them. There wasn't anything all that bad in it, but they were certainly reacting to each other rather fast. It just seemed natural, and he was enjoying it a lot.
It just surprised him that he could be having so much fun right then with the:
