“Well, that was tasty,” smiled Nabiki, as she patted her stomach. Sure, the meal was nowhere near Kasumi’s standards, but then again, many five-star restaurants weren’t even near that standard.
“Can we have some more for dinner?” asked Dalimon, little hearts in his eyes.
“We just finished lunch, and the idiot is already worried about dinner,” grumbled Ryudamon.
“So where are we going, anyway?” asked Nabiki. “I mean, so far, we haven’t really seen anything resembling human civilization.”
Ranma looked around. “Maybe we should head for that mountain. I mean, it’s gotta have a view. Maybe we can see something.”
“You mean Infinity Mountain?” asked Dalimon.
“That’s a weird name,” mumbled Ranma. “It ain’t that tall.”
“Well Ranma-kun, some of us never crossed the mountains in China and Japan,” stated Nabiki in an emotionless tone.
“But you are right,” she murmured. “We need a high enough vantage point to see where we should head.
“Anything we should know?” asked Nabiki, facing Ryudamon.
The yellow digimon scratched her head. “Well, they say some digimon that go there never come back, but I can’t be certain which if any of those rumors should be trusted.”
“At least she didn’t say ‘if you believe in those sorts of things’,” grumbled Ranma. “So we just gotta be careful.”
“You have other things to worry about now, foolish humans!” came a dark cry as a flaming black bird slowly descended upon them.
“Damn, a phoenix!” shouted Ranma.
“No, it’s Saberdramon!” shouted Dalimon, rushing before Ranma, growling. “He’s a major baddie!”
“What do you want?” shouted Ryudamon.
The dark digimon smirked as best as it could. “It is quite simple; I am here to destroy the humans.”
“Not a chance!” yelled Ranma. “Mōko Takabisha!”
The bird quickly dodged the chi attack. “Interesting ability, human. But I do have help. Monochromon, attack!”
The three armored dinosaurs rushed from the surrounding foliage, eyes glowing red. “Volcanic Strike!” they shouted, as they launched fireballs at the group.
Ranma grabbed Nabiki and hopped away, as the two digimon dodged to the sides.
“Dali-Tongue Whack!” shouted Dalimon, his tongue striking the closest Monochromon, but only glancing off the armored head.
“Katana Attack!” yelled Ryudamon, as her iron blade fell to a similar fate, bouncing off the armor.
“What did you do to them?” shouted Ranma.
“I merely helped bring out their darker nature,” chuckled Saberdramon. “And you’ll find no tougher armor around here than on their small brains.”
“Nabiki,” said Ranma, setting her down, “you better hide. This ain’t gonna be easy.”
“It gets worse!” shouted Saberdramon. “Nitro Arrow!” he concluded, shooting a green arrow of light from his chest, striking the ground near the group.
Ranma was already darting forward. He knew that something that Saberdramon had done had resulted in those Monochromon turning evil; their auras were literally reeking with dark energy not of their own. How do I stop ‘em without hurting ‘em?
Maybe I can get ‘em to take each other out! Ranma darted into the group, trying to get the Monochromon to strike each other.
“Fool!” shouted Saberdramon, “they can’t be hurt by their own attacks. However, you can be hurt by ours! Black Saber!” he shouted, as multiple black fireballs launched from his wings, heading towards Ranma.
“Guys, look out!” she shouted, as they neared the group. She knew she wasn’t a fighter; she was more of a mental fighter. But she wanted to help. She didn’t want to lose anyone.
She wanted to help in any way that she could, and thus her Digivice began to glow once more.
“Ryudamon, digivolve to ... Ginryumon!”
The attack struck, but as the dust cleared, and the Monochromon slowly stood, no trace of the real target remained.
“That was close,” said the newly digivolved champion.
“Whoa,” said Ranma, “that was fast.”
“WAH!” cried Dalimon. “I wanted to digivolve! How’d you beat me?”
It would appear Lord Devimon was correct to worry, thought Saberdramon. The female has already made her rookie digimon digivolve. But she also appears to be the weakest of the group. I will deal with her, and return for the male. “Mach Shadow!” it yelled, as the shadow attack struck near the group.
Ginryumon moved around the blast as fast as it could, Ranma and Dalimon still on its back. “You missed!”
“He wasn’t trying to hit us!” yelled Ranma. “NABIKI! RUN!”
The girl knew when Ranma told you to leave, you ran, unlike a certain tomboy sister of hers.
But Saberdramon was quicker, grabbing her in his claws. “Where do you think you are going?” he chuckled.
“Can you deal with these guys?” asked Ranma.
“Go and save her, I’ll hold things here!” yelled Ginryumon.
“Dalimon, catch our ride!” yelled Ranma, hefting the green digimon up, and facing him towards the ascending Saberdramon.
“This’ll hurt!” muttered the green digimon. “Dali Tongue Whack!” it cried, as its tongue shot forward, wrapping around the leg of the digimon.
Ranma, seeing it had worked, forced his ki into his legs, making a mad leap towards the flying digimon.
“Well, well,” said Saberdramon, spotting the two holding on as Dalimon pulled them closer to him. “So you have more skills than I knew of. But how long can you stay with me?” he asked, as he started to ascend. Let us see what you can do against this plan...
“Took you long enough,” shouted Nabiki, as Dalimon finally pulled them close enough to grab onto Saberdramon’s leg.
“Traffic was a pain,” smirked Ranma, as he tried to pry the bird digimon’s claw open to retrieve Nabiki.
“My pain, you mean,” mumbled Dalimon. “My tongue’s gonna be sore for weeks.”
“May I remind you,” started Saberdramon, “that I have all of you now, unless you can fly!” he finished, as he continued to ascend above File Island. “Surrender, or fall to your deaths.”
“Never!” shouted Dalimon. “We ain’t giving up against a meanie like you!”
“Fine,” snarled Saberdramon, as he released Nabiki.
Ranma grabbed her as quickly as he could, holding on to her and Dalimon, his legs secured around the leg.
“Now, no hitchhikers!” shouted Saberdramon, as he began to spin, trying to force them off.
“He’s got people!” shouted Tai, as the group raced towards the battle.
“We need to help them!” shouted Tentomon.
“A fall from that height will not be good!” said Izzy, as he raced with the group.
“I think I got a pebble in my shows,” muttered Joe.
“You guys better digivolve!” said Sora.
“Biyomon, digivolve to ... Birdramon!”
“Tentomon, digivolve to ... Kabuterimon!”
“We got to get to them before they fall!” shouted Birdramon.
“Too late!” shouted Kabuterimon, as a dot seemed to fly off the speck that was Saberdramon.
Ranma had tried all he could, but the bird was creating too much centrifugal force. He might have been able to strike him with a chi attack, but his hands were full with Nabiki and Dalimon.
And eventually, his strength ran out.
He clutched Nabiki and Dalimon to him as much as he could, hoping that he knew enough about Herb’s flight technique to keep from making their crash a fatal one. Even Akane had never knocked him that high before.
He wasn’t going to lose here. He was going to land safely, and then shoot that overgrown turkey with an Mōko Takabisha so large, it would be a moon. I ain’t gonna lose here! Ranma Saotome don’t lose, not when it really counts. And it counts now!
But it ain’t looking good. I never got that landing thing right, and Nabiki ain’t gonna take a landing like I can. What to do? What to do?
Dalimon! If Ryudamon can digivolve into that horse thing, then he’s gotta be able to do it too!
But how? How did they do it last time?
That little device... It was glowing when Nabiki was shouting at us. It seemed like it pulled a bit of her aura into it.
That’s it! These things take our ki and use it to get those guys to grow bigger! So all I gotta do is pump my ki into it, and it should work.
It better ... cause I ain’t got any other ideas at this point!
Ranma focused his mind, focusing his aura towards the Digivice, hoping that it would sense his need and work.
“I feel funny,” said Dalimon, eyes wide, as he began to glow.
“Dalimon!” shouted Ranma. “Digivolve!”
“We’re not going to make it!” shouted Birdramon, as she avoided another attack from Saberdramon. The dark digimon had resumed his pursuit of the falling humans, wanting to verify their demise, when he spotted the two champion fliers coming to save them.
And he wouldn’t allow that.
“Dalimon, digivolve to ... Shenronmon!”
There was a bright flash, as the small green dinosaur digivoled into a much larger dragon, a long serpentine body flowing from behind its head, where Ranma and Nabiki were holding on.
“This cannot be!” shouted Saberdramon.
“Surprise!” shouted Ranma, as Shenronmon floated before the shocked dark digimon. “Let him have it!”
“River of Fire!” shouted Shenronmon, as his mouth opened, and a high pressure flame shot forth, striking the dark digimon, and sending him crashing to the ground in orange flames.
“We need to help Ginryumon!” shouted Nabiki.
“Right!” shouted Shenronmon, as he took off towards the battle.
“Well,” said Kabuterimon, “you don’t see that everyday.”
Ginryumon was using her speed to stay ahead of her attackers, trying to get them to defeat themselves. But she was having trouble, as they continued to try and caught her in their fire. “I really need some help here,” she muttered.
“Sonic Wind!” came a shout, as a long dragon flew by at speeds fast enough to uproot trees, and easily able to send the slower dinosaurs end over end, revealing their unarmored bellies.
“Whatever works,” said the digimon. “Tekkoujin!” she shouted, as several blades shot from her mouth, striking the digimon in their stomachs.
It was enough to force the Black Gears out, as their shot into the sky and broke apart.
