Shazam! : Indirect Route [Episode 177273]

by Kender

There had never been any other choice in Ranma's mind than to go to Japan, but he did realize that simply going back on the trail to what he had originally faced wasn't all that good an idea. Simply dropping in on the Tendos with his father injured like this would be a problem, and he had a sneaking suspicion that his old man wouldn't exactly be holding back on his own particular brand of heavy handed 'matchmaking'. On the other hand, going to join up with his mother directly wouldn't be too helpful unless he knew how he would handle her, since she could get... odd at times.

But as he thought of the places in Tokyo where he, a genuine 'superhero' might go, he remembered one particular thing. There had been reports of something... not nice going on in one part of Azabu Juuban, what with monsters attacking people. He could remember hearing about them on their way over to China, and now that he had faced magic, it was rather clear that those sorts of things could happen. If he went there, he could at least fight the good fight, and get to learn how to handle his new dual 'identity'.

Besides, his father needed medical attention, and there was a good hospital in that area. They could give the care that his old man would need, and the big jerk could rest up and recover. After all, it wasn't like he was a medical professional, and trying to explain his attempts to heal bullet wounds would be a hard thing to do. This way would allow him to put his father into the hands of professionals who would get the job done as soon as they could.

Of course, this would give him time, which he would need to handle the messes that would likely be awaiting him. With his Pop legitimately laid up in the hospital, he would have the chance to approach the Tendos without being pushed there by his father. He could also see his mother, who he could expect now, and he could seek out Ryoga and Ukyo to defuse those messes before they came to attack him.

However, he'd have to take it one step at a time, and that meant starting off with turning back to his 'civilian' form. Handling being 'RanMarvel' wasn't such a hard thing, but that didn't mean that he was going to give up being himself. That would mean turning into his 'super' form full time, and he could not do that.

And he sure as hell didn't want to have to explain to a bunch of hospital workers why he was currently a curvy girl in a miniskirt.

Shampoo only had a moment of distraction as she helped Ranma drag his fat fool of a father into the hospital, as she wasn't used to doors opening on their own. Sure, she had heard of such things, but for a girl who had basically lived in a 'backwoods' village for her entire life, it was still a bit new to her. Then again, she didn't let that bother her too much, as she had never been the sort of girl to gawk, and she'd been trained too well to get too bogged down during an emergency.

And this was certainly one of those times. She certainly didn't respect the pain in the backside, but she didn't want him dead. If he had simply gone away, she wouldn't cry over it, but having him pass on in such a manner was simply... not good.

Of course, she didn't have much time to think on it as she saw some of the hospital staff rushing over as they got a view of what had just come in their door.

"By everything holy," one of the doctors muttered, "what happened to him?"

Realizing that opening her mouth might cause trouble that they didn't need, she let Ranma answer.

"He got shot," the teenaged boy answered simply.

"What? 'Shot'?" a guard grumbled, tapping his fingers on his radio as he watched the man in the gi be placed onto a stretcher.

"Yeah. Hit him hard too."

The grim faces of the staff as they looked at the injury confirmed what he'd said. Training had started to take over rather quickly, and soon there were people rushing to cabinets and drawers to get supplies to start working on fixing what had been damaged. Soon, the two teenagers were pushed off to the side as the doctors took charge, but then the martial artists were not about to begin complaining.

Not that it didn't stop one of the younger nurses from looking up at Ranma and asking what had to be on all their minds. "Who shot him?"

"Some Chinese guys," the pigtailed boy responded. "He... ate something he shouldn't have, and got into trouble with some guys. A couple of thugs, if you ask me...."

"Gangsters probably," sighed the doctor in charge without losing one bit of focus.

A tensing around his eyes told the Chinese girl that Ranma was holding back from telling the truth, but she didn't mind that all too much. She could see the reasoning behind the choice, and agreed with it, as these people didn't need to hear the truth. To be honest though, she did have to admit that they weren't all that far off in their description of the shooters in her opinion. As far as she was concerned, those in her home country's government were no more than a gang. But then, she could also admit that she was a bit biased, not that she wanted to correct that all too soon.

So, she merely waited and watched, while:
