Switching Places/Eva!-Switcheroo!: Granted!? [Episode 179992]

by Linnara

Ranma stared as Nabiki slapped down two big dictionary-sized tomes down on yet another table which had appeared from thin air. How in the world was he supposed to read all that aloud, anyhow? It would take days!

Well, unless he Wished something like -

"Oh, I get it! All I have to do is Wish that what's written in those big books Nabiki's been making come true!"

His words echoed off into a massive, resounding silence. Ranma clapped his hands over his mouth, appalled. Ooooh helll...

"...Raaa...nnn...maaa..." Nabiki's low-pitched growl seemed to slither into the cloudy walls. Ranma stared. He'd never thought of Nabiki for a good candidate to learn Mr Tendou's so-called 'Demon-head', but now that he thought about it...

And then, into the heavy silence, echoed a chirpy voice that made everybody's blood within hearing range run cold.

Well, everybody except Mihoshi the genie herself, who had apparently just now poked her head out of the pillar of fog, that is...

"Oooooh... Darn, that's heavy. I don't think I've ever seen any Wish that's looks like it'll need as much energy as that does before..."

Lines of light were running all over the two heavy-looking tomes that Nabiki had in front of her.

" - But it's doable, I think! Barely, but it'll run - "

Nabiki was nearly choking, Shinji looked like somebody had wacked him from behind with a very big pole, and as for Ranma -

Ranma was frozen like a statue. Oh, this was his life, alright -

"- Granted!"

And then, Reality - shifted. And rearranged itself.

Quietly and softly. Just a little bit.

"Wheeee, I'm freeee - Ta da, everybody, and it was nice knowing you all!"

Mihoshi disappeared with a pop. Ranma turned terrified eyes towards Nabiki, who was muttering to herself as if her life depended on it.

"I wasn't finished yet I wasn't finished yet Ranma you dummy - Oh, alright, that's alright and this might be a problem but yes, yes, it can't be helped now can it, and - Oh."

Nabiki blinked, then. "OK that's better then I thought it might be - Damnit, Ranma, I. Wasn't. Done. Yet."

"I'm sorry I'm sorry Nabiki, what's gonna happen now - "

"What? Oh." Nabiki blinked, coming back to herself. "Well, both of the worlds seem to be all right for the moment, or as all right as they can be for now, anyhow - the other stuff, though...Darn, Ranma, I really wanted to fine-tune it some more..."

"Oh, but...It's alright, then?"

"Well, both worlds haven't gone boom or worse, so yeah, I suppose so. It's just that..."

Nabiki blinked, and looked at her hands, which were going transparent, slowly but surely. As was the rest of her.

"Oh, damnit, I'm being drawn back - hey Ranma, just read this, alright?"

Ranma blinked yet again, as the very thick books in Nabiki's hands reformed themselves into a piece of paper.

"O - OK? Sorry, Nabiki, I really didn't mean to..."

"Yeah, yeah, alright - just read that, and try to think before you act this ti..."

Ranma stared, as Nabiki slowly faded out of sight.

Shinji sighed, hands in his pockets. "Really, Saoto - um, Ranma..."

Ranma groaned. Now Ikari Shinji was giving him the Look. No, well - he wasn't Ikari Shinji now, was he?

"Well, um -" Shinji rubbed his eyes. "Anyway - what was I trying to say before all this? There was something I wanted to ask you..."

Ranma blinked. Shinji had mentioned something about...

"Oh, yes." Shinji blinked, looking up. "Have you read the manga called 'Ranma 1/2 already?"

Ranma stared, yet again. No, he hadn't heard it wrong the first time, had he.

"...Ranma 1/2."

"...Right."

"Not 'Shinji 1/2'."

And now it was Shinji's turn to stare. "What?"

"I saw a manga titled 'Shinji 1/2'. At one of the used bookstore chains. Lots of them, actually. With a Akane-lookalike on the cover. Kasumi-san, too. And Kunou, maybe..."

Shinji looked like his eyes were about to pop out of his head. "I...that..."

Ranma stopped, then. Wait a second, wasn't Shinji saying something about...

"Um, wait - you were talking about Evangelion, before...?..."

"Well, yeah. Somebody called 'Ikari Ranma' seems to be the main character in the one I saw, you see..."

Ranma stared. Oh, really.

They both looked at each other and sighed, then.

"Well, alright, um...so, so why don't you read up on that, um, 'Shinji 1/2' till we meet again? If this wasn't a one-time thing, that is..." Shinji muttered.

"Well, if it's because we have bits of each of our 'souls' in each other or we're connected or something like that, we should be able to talk to each other in our dreams again, I think..." Ranma sighed, then.

"OK, I'll try to read this 'Shinji 1/2' - so why don't you go watch some more Evangelion, and try tell me about how Evangelion with Ikari Ranma goes?"

"Sounds like a plan." Shinji muttered. "...Hey, my alarm clock is ringing, I think..."

"Well, alright, bye then. See you tomorrow night, alright?"

"Alright, see ya..."

Ranma watched Shinji fade into the mist, and sighed yet again.

What had he gotten himself into this time, anyway?
