Setsuna's Fault: Sincerity of Wood...pecker [Episode 180275]

by Red Priest of the 17th Order

Makoto let out a heaving sigh as she sat down in the local park. Yes, she was skipping class again, but she was sure after today, it wasn’t going to matter much.

She’d gotten into a fight, again. She remembered what the Vice Principal told her; ‘keep this up, and you’ll be out on your ear’.

But that Kensuke guy was SUCH an ass. Who the hell did he think he was, calling her a tomboy? Sure, it might have held some truth to it, but she was as feminine as the rest of them. She could cook, she could dance, and with her height, she could show off such a statuesque grace...

Of course, as she considered it, the fact she also didn’t hesitate to slug somebody that pissed her off royally might have had something to do with it... nah...

Leaning her head back, Makoto tried to relax on the bench as she contemplated the day’s earlier events...

...And then saw a pair of eyes looking into hers.

“Hello!”

“ACK!” Makoto cried out in shock as she sprang up from the bench and to her feet, twisting her body and getting into a karate stance, ready to fight off the one who surprised her.

However, the ponytailed brunette’s hands went limp at the sight before her. Blinking her eyes, the woman couldn’t believe what she was looking at. Blue feathered body, two long black tail-feathers, and a head with a crest of red and given two large eyes and a pointy beak. “A bird?”

“Nope, not just any bird.” He then bounced off from the top of the bench and flew over to one of the trees.

*Ba-da-ba-da-BA*! Ba-da-ba-da-BA!*! *BADABADABADABADA*!

Coughing to try and keep the sawdust out of her lungs, the tall woman squinted her eyes, trying to see what had happened. However, her jaw dropped at she stared at awe for the kanji that said, “Woodpecker?”

“Yep!” The bird said as he came to land on his feet by the tall girl. “Woody’s the name! Woody Woodpecker!”

Blinking her eyes once, twice, Makoto was rather unsure WHAT to make of this little bird. “Ooookaaay...” she said slowly as she took a step back from the weird little bird. “What are you doing here? Mirag... mara... mitigation?”

“That’s ‘migration’, and no, I’m not here for that,” Woody told her as he started flapping his arms. As he took to the air just high enough so that he was eye-level with the woman, he told the brunette, “I’m here for you, Makoto Kino!”

“Me?” Makoto asked, sounding thoroughly shocked. “What do I have to do with anything!”

“You, my dear, are...” Woody started as he flew over to another tree.

*BADABADABADABADA*!

Wincing at the saw-dust that was kicked up by the rapid-fire pecking, Makoto took a moment to wait before turning to the sight. She had to blink her eyes as the tree had a stylized number ‘4’ etched into the wood. “I’m a four?”

“No,” Woody told her as he continued to flap his arms, staying afloat near the tree. “That is the symbol of the planet of Jupiter. And YOU, my dear, are SAILOR JUPITER! Protector of all things wood, and energetic like a woodpecker; except instead of rapid movements, you’ll be able to use all that excess energy into electric attacks and the like.”

“...I’m WHAT!?” Makoto practically screeched.

“Yes!” Woody cheered as he flew right in front of the etched mark in the tree and pecked HARD! His mouth stuck in the tree a little, he turned his beak a bit in a continuous screwing motion before finally, he pulled it free, along with something that had been inside the tree. He then started flying over to the woman.

At the sight of the color green, Makoto winced. “If that’s a worm or anything...”

“Heavens no,” Woody said, causing the thing he had plucked to fall on the woman’s head and bounce off.

Raising a hand to rub the spot that had been pummeled by the sudden gift, Makoto looked down to see what had landed by her feet. She had to blink her eyes as she saw it was, “A pen?”

“Not just any pen!” Woody told the girl excitedly. “This is your Henshin Wand, the source of your power. To active, just thrust the thing into the air and cry out the phrase, ‘Jupiter Planet Power, Make-Up’! and watch the sparkling fireworks commence!”

Looking down at the pen, then back to the woodpecker, Makoto asked, “Are you for real?”

“Real as Tex Avery!” Woody replied. “Just as you’re a real life princess of Jupiter!”

Makoto just stared at the Woodpecker for a moment before a realization came over her, “THAT’S IT!” She cried out, slamming a fist down on an open palm.

“What is?” Woody asked, coming for a landing on the woman’s shoulder.

“The fight I had earlier, the bump on my head, something that came out of a poorly drawn 1940’s cartoon... I got a concussion during my fight with Kensuke!” Makoto declared, as if that explained everything.

Raising an eyebrow, Woody reached over with his wing, the gloved hand grabbing a hair from her ponytail.

*Ker-PLUCK*!

“OW!” Makoto cried as she turned her head to look at the red-crested bird. “What was that for!?”

“Did you feel it?” Woody asked seriously.

Blinking her eyes, Makoto answered, “Well... yeah.”

Grinning, Woody told her, “Then you aren’t dreaming.”

A look of dream started to come over the tall brunette’s face. “I’m... not?”

“Nope! EheheheHEH! EheheheHEH! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEEEEH!”
