"Okay, that's a mouthful, how about I'll call you 'Ren'," said Ranma. "How's that?"
The girl nodded slightly. "I prefer shorter names."
"Good enuff. I'm Ranma. So how do you do this 'wind' stuff?" asked Ranma. "Like if I get one of them airships, can ya get the sails full or what?"
Ren glanced at him, her expression unreadable. Especially by Ranma.
Ranma tried to figure out what he should do, what he needed to do. Akane had just kicked him out of her life for good. He was stuck here in this world now, and he was going to have to make do with this unless he found an alternative or way back to A Japan. "Them airship things are kinda cool is all, and it has to beat walking everywhere."
Ren considered one of the small cargoboats going overhead and seemed to consider that.
"Oh, hey, I forgot," said Ranma, bringing a fist down into an upturned palm. "I'm Ranma Saotome. You wanna be friends?"
Ren blinked at that before, ever so faintly, a little smile showed itself. "That... sounds nice."
"Heh," said Ranma, thinking this was at least a step in the right direction. What would have happened between him and Akane if that engagement hadn't been hanging over their heads? Could that offer made by Akane to his cursed form to be friends have been kept? So many things he could have wished for, and he'd TRIED to make it right by going to Akane. Yeah, and look at how well THAT worked out.
Ren looked over the boy, not sure what to make of him or this situation. "You are not sure where to go?"
"Nope," said Ranma, "I'm new around here, ya know."
"Ah," said Ren. "I want to go to Edel Garden."
"That's as good a place to go as any, I s'pose," agreed Ranma. "Why there?"
"I can't tell you," said Ren.
"Some kinda secret?" asked Ranma.
"No," said Ren.
Ranma waited but Ren didn't elaborate any further. Shrugging, he decided it didn't much matter. It was a destination at least. Now he just had to:
