Ranma sighed, looking at the red-haired girl in front of him, who was still grinning, though somewhat wanely.
"But before that, let's sit, OK. We could make a table or..."
...Or a kotatsu, right. Ranma sighed and sat cross-legged on the zabuton, snuggling under the kotatsu's covers, watching Shinji-as-'Ranko' do the same. Oi, oi. He hoped Shinji wasn't going to try to sit cross-legged in a skirt, if it ever came to that...
The small table with the heater on the bottom and covers to warm people's legs looked just like the Tendo's kotatsu, scratches and Akane-cracks and all. Ranma pictured Akane on the other side in a kimono, just like she had been last New Years, and sighed.
Well, he'd just have to do - whatever he was supposed to do - if he ever wanted to see anything of his former life again, he supposed...
'Ranko' waved a hand, conjuring some green tea in a pot and some tea-cups. Ranma sighed, and added some senbei and cookies. Food almost always made things better, in his way of thinking.
"...So?" Shinji-as-'Ranko' mumbled through a mouthful of senbei.
Ranma sighed. OK, how to explain this...
"It first starts out with a girl and a panda arriving at a Dojo - the Tendo Dojo, that is..."
"And the panda is Pops - well, your father, that is - and the girl is..."
"'Saotome Shinji', right."
Ranma sighed, then. 'Shinji 1/2' was rather mindboggling, really - so close to his life, but yet, so different...
"OK, so Pops and you - oops, the 'Saotome Shinji' in the manga, I mean - get introduced to Akane and Nabiki and Kasumi-san, but the engagement thing - that goes differently, somehow. Pops trys to say something about a betrothal, I think, but Uncle Souun just cuts him off and pulls him away, and Pops just - let's him, too. And then he tells the girls that Pops is an old friend of his, and that he and Shinji is going to be staying at the Tendo Dojo for the time being..."
"Mmmmmm." 'Ranko' nodded, reaching for another cracker. "And then?"
Ranma sighed. Well, OK...
"Well, OK - so then, 'Girl Shinji' and Akane and Nabiki and Kasumi-san all get around to talking, and first Kasumi-san asks 'her' if she knows anything about cooking, and they make some cookies together - well, Kasumi-san and 'Girl Shinji' make the dough I think it's called, and Nabiki helps cut them, while Akane is firmly told to wash the dishes. Then Nabiki comes and asks 'her' about which school she'd be going to, and if she's interested in earning any extra money in the future, and stuff like that. She tells Shinji stuff about Fuurinkan for an extra cookie, though - it's a first time discount. It's only after all that that Akane comes over and asks if 'Shinji-chan' wants to come and spar with her a bit..."
Ranma sighed at that. 'Shinji-chan' hadn't done too badly at that, though 'she' didn't seem to be really the same level as Ranma himself had been at that time, in his humble opinion, in girl-form or not girl-form, and the Akane in the manga had managed to end the bout without plowing through the Dojo wall.
"Hmmmm." 'Ranko' murmured. "And then...?..."
