Present Past: Drinking Problems [Episode 182094]

by Kender

As she opened her eyes, the main thing on Tessa's mind was the way that her tongue seemed to stick to the roof of her mouth. It took some effort to pull it back down to where it was supposed to be, but the amount of time needed might have been due to the fact that she had some trouble concentrating at that moment. She knew that something was 'off' about herself right then, but she couldn't work up the willingness to be bothered about that. In fact, she was actually feeling pretty good about the situation, even to the point of smiling as she swayed to the music that she was hearing.

Looking down at the can in her hand, she saw that it was not the same coffee drink that she'd been having. With a lazy hand, she lifted it up and gazed at the label, seeing a brand name that she couldn't pronounce, but could definitely recognize. She could recall something about Melissa saying that it would be the 'perfect drink' for her, but she couldn't remember if that was minutes ago, or hours earlier.

But it didn't particularly matter to her right about then. "Oh well. Down the hatch."

"Hey, look at you!" Mao cheered, giving her young friend a thumbs up. "Soon, you'll be drinking like a pro."

"I have been drinking since I was a little girl, I'll have you know."

"Not like this. Though, if you keep this up, you'll really let your hair down and be a hit with the guys around here."

"Are you saying that I can't?"

The older woman shook her head. "No, that's not what I'm saying. What I mean is that a little thing like you can't be taking too much...."

"HA! I'll show you! I can handle myself, thank you very much."

"Is that so, Captain? Well then, let's see how you do."

"I'll do fine!" insisted Tessa, chugging the last of the liquid out of the can, and slamming the container back onto the table. "I'll have another!"

"Looks like this evening will be more interesting than I thought."

"Woof!" went Mister Tadakichi.

Chiyo-chan smiled at her canine friend. "I know that it seems a little childish to pray before bedtime, but I just felt like doing it. After all, I really want to do well in my new school. And...."

"Hrrr?"

"I want to wish the best for the poor people who are, or will be, suffering."

That sort of sentiment was of the kind that even a dog could understand.

Kaname truly liked her friend Kyoko. The two of them were very close, and she loved her glasses wearing friend like a sister. It was very easy to see the two of them hanging out together, as they had naturally done so, and nothing had happened between them to stop it. Her friend was someone that she really liked, and if anything happened to her, she wouldn't know what to do.

Of course, that didn't mean that she couldn't get annoyed with the other girl.

Groaning in the back of her throat, she fought to open her eyes, which was a chore, since she didn't have the energy or desire to really try her hardest. Every part of her body seemed to be sluggish, and she knew that if she could just let go, she would be perfectly able to lay there like a lump for a long while. But as she had never been much of a quitter in anything, she had pushed herself to open her eyes.

So, she wound up looking up blearily from where she lay, and wondered just what had happened. Memory came slowly back to her, and images of Kyoko being excited about being able to go out that evening had filled her mind. Since her friend tended to be excited about a lot of the things, it wasn't all that special in her opinion. Still, that seemed important to remember, as the other girl had a habit of being... not cautious about what she'd get into. After all, that girl was the one who had pushed her into a blind date with that slimy creep in the tailored flight suit who'd tried to get into her panties for the entire evening.

Recalling that information reminded her of just what it was that Kyoko had wanted to do. Their other friends had come up with the idea of going partying after their shift, and Kyoko had jumped on that idea. It hadn't been something that Kaname had been too sure of, but she hadn't had a chance when her friend had dragged along by the arm. Not that she had taken all that long to agree to try to enjoy herself once she realized that her friends were all rooting for her to join them.

Now she was wondering about how wise that capitulation had been. It was one thing to sit around her quarters as they drank sodas and ate popcorn. But it was quite another thing to do something that left a strange taste in one's mouth when one woke up. There was something... fruity on her tongue, and she remembered trying some colored juice drinks since they hadn't seemed to be so bad. However, as she looked up at a ceiling that she didn't recognized, she was questioning just how wise that decision was.

Unfortunately, hindsight was only good for showing a girl how badly she'd kicked herself in the ass after she'd already done the deed. And with the clear fact that she had no idea as to where they were, she knew that this could be very bad for her. As it was, she was already going to have trouble in getting out of this situation, and at best, she was going to have a rather embarrassing time for as long as it took her to get out of this place, return to her cabin and recover.

Turning eyes with alcohol-induced aches towards her side, she wondered how bad this could be for her, while:
