Dungeon Keeper: Laying out the Welcome Mat, Keeper Style. [Episode 182253]

by Ranger of the Crossover Fiancees

His eyes closed as he sat on his throne, Ranma let the mental image of his growing dungeon slowly come into focus.

The Imps had done a fine job of things while he'd been away and it showed.

The entrance to the original bedrock walled room with his Dungeon Heart in the corner had been fitted with a simple basic door labeled 'Dirty Laundry'. The Mentor had originally been nonplussed by this idea until he'd seen the plans for the large ornate room full of Death Traps with a steel door labeled 'Central Heart Room, keep out on pain of Death'.

Nobody had ever accused a Saotome of being stupid when it came to misdirection and dirty tricks.

Devistus was already making himself comfortable in the cozy private lair next to one of the decoy treasury rooms. Having grown up with a parent who had no compunctions about stealing from his own son, Ranma had developed a habit of never putting all of his eggs (or yen) in one basket. The income from the gems was split into several separate piles thus ensuring that losing one treasury wouldn't cripple him on the gold front.

The girls were in their own quarters, separate furnished rooms linked for convenience and well away from the main lairs. The Mentor had explained that each type of monster would set up home in those rooms and that it was best to try and keep certain groups away from each other less they fight among themselves rather then against a common foe. Somehow his Imps had managed to produce actual furniture and bedding for the girls, to say nothing about hot running water and an almost extravagant hot spring/bath area which he looked forward to using himself.

Hatcheries lined the floors next to the living quarters, eggs magically popping forth at regular intervals to hatch into full grown chickens. When the Mentor had first explained that to him, he hadn't really believed it. But now his only question about it was 'how the hell do these chickens change their flavor every time you eat them'.

Across from the Lairs were the entrances to the training room and library. Per Ranma's requirements the training room was very large and well stocked with the wooden rotating stick figures used in martial arts training. It had amused the pigtailed Keeper to learn that many of the things used in his world to train in the martial arts was also used in this world to train monsters for combat. Though to be fair, the wooden dummies in his world didn't employ sharp bladed objects to teach basic avoidance and endurance (It cost too much, so Genma had been forced to improvise broken glass instead).

The library was rather bare at the moment, though Devistus promised it would change once a few mages were hired to get to work in there. So was the workshop, though that looked to change very soon. Situated well away from the main dungeon connected only by a single well fortified tunnel were a separate series of rooms, the Jail and the Torture Chambers. Those weren't the kind of places Ranma really wanted to think about, but they were 'Necessary Evils', as Horny and the Mentor had explained. In fact the old spirit had even made some noises as to Ranma 'showing the Mistresses their place' if he ever thought one under his command was going too far.

All that was really missing now, were minions.

Ranma's mental eye flickered toward the pulsing portal to his domain.

Something was coming through.
